Tightrope tells the tale of the reluctant heir of a yakuza family and his childhood friend, and follows their love relationship that started budding in their school days and keeps developing slowly but surely.
I can't say it's anything more than decent, but the opening, oh the opening!! I felt like I was teleported 10 years back in time. It made me feel incredibly nostalgic and reminded me of the first animes that I watched back in the beginning of the 2010's. It was worth watching if only for that! Nothing about it was too bad or too great either, it was a short and cute story, not too problematic at all.
What a waste of my time. I wish I could have those 45 minutes back. Despite being all for everything shounen-ai/yaoi/gay related, I rarely enjoy anime actually rooted in the genre. If it doesn't have something else going for it, I get bored very quickly. I figured the yakuza bent would have something going for it, at least. Considering its an OVA, I can forgive the slightly confusing and slap-dash premise at the beginning. The turning point for our couple is quite sweet, but soured by the fact that Ryu is basically forcing himself on Nao and Nao just allows it. Typical BL logic--sure this kissing is fine but no I will not have sex with you and we are not romantically involved. Yugh. Feels bad, man. Animation was very mediocre. Not much else to say about it. While the relationship dynamic may be toxic, what is definitely toxic is the boring-ass score for this anime. Piano tinkles ineffectively in the background, and annoyed me more than anything. This anime is not offensive, so much as misguided by tropes in BL logic. It's not terrible, but it left me wanting my time back. Unless you're really hard up to see some anime boys kiss (and there is quite a bit of kissing), give this one a pass.
