(Before I start, I haven't read the manga, so I can't make any kind of comparisons.)

Can I just say that the music for this anime is AMAZING?

Seriously, if I had to choose one thing that made me love Kami nomi, I'd say the sound. Everything about it: the intro (please, just go listen to God only knows, right now), the background music. I think this is the first anime I watch that actually makes me pay attention to it. You can be watching any scene of this anime and just be like: wow. The music is actually really good.

But enough about the sound, because I also want to talk about the other things. (The music, though! asjdjfdgk okay, I'll shut up now) I have to confess, at the beginning the story didn't convince me at all, because I'm really not familiar with gal games. But once I started watching, I couldn't stop. It is hard for me to find animes that get me very caught up, animes that literally won't let me sleep until I've finished watching everything. But Kami nomi got me addicted really quickly (don't you just love when that happens? finding that kind of anime. Gosh, I do).

After watching it, I still don't know what to think about the main character, though. Keima had me screaming "you freaking IDIOT" at the computer screen every five minutes, but there's still something endearing about him that makes me like him. Yes, I still think he's the biggest yerk ever. And I still love him. What can I say? I found him to be a complex character, someone who has something bigger going on deep inside of him, even though they didn't really show it, and I just love those kind of things. The characterization for the other characters (the girls - his conquests) is also great. They all have their background stories, their unique issues, and they're all special in their strange way. I loved this because it made me care a lot for other characters that are not the main ones, which doesn't happen for me in most animes.

So, despite my mixed feelings for the protagonist, Keima, I still think it is an anime worth watching. The romance isn't exactly, how to put it, romantic, but that's how the story is (wouldn't work otherwise, and Keima wouldn't be Keima if he had fallen in love like a normal human being) and the comedy is really, really good, at least for me. Also, have I already said how good the music is!?

Definitely going to watch again sometime. :)

I'm not going to review the show completely, I just want to talk about a specific part of it that I haven't seen anyone else mention. (I've only seen season 1 so far too)

That part is his utter cunt of a mother, in 1 episode she says her son is rotten and in another she says that she wishes that Elsie was her child instead of her "loser child" and "if only I could pretend I never had that son".

obviously I understand that she's fictional but she embodies the attitude of the typical single mother from the west (maybe the east too?), treating their children like utter garbage and then blaming it on them when they turn out to be gaming nerds etc. like Keima who would rather steer clear from real women prefering instead to "date" the 2D ones that aren't going to treat him as the only real woman in his life has.
maybe this was intentional or maybe they just made her this way for the sake of comedy but whether intentional or not they really showed how he became the dysfunctional kid that he is.

With no father in the picture, he has wound up effiminate, manipulative and simply unable to cope with the real world which has lead him to get his only guidance from his bitch of a mother who hates him and video games. it's probably why he often resorts to "negging" the women he has to seduce rather than making a real connection with them.

and yes, I get the irony that all this is coming from a 37 year old fan of anime but my excuse is that I'm an engineer - we weren't built for being normal people.

I just want to add that despite my ramblings above, I am enjoying this show so far and writing a character that makes you despise them is probably a sign of good writing, but I'll see how it progresses in the next seasons.
I would also like to add that I am from a 2 parent family with a loving father and mother, I haven't been "hurt" by women or any of the other crap used to dismiss anyone that dares criticize the actions of a woman these days - it's simply an observation.

How best to describe such a title. Completely questionable, bizarre and yet somehow entertaining.

It was probably an attempt to create a somewhat individual and novel harem. And this attempt was successful. This work is just like every harem title before and after it. Only with the difference that the implementation and the concept were adorned with crazy ideas.

The protagonist Katsuragi must conquer the hearts of the girls in order to drive demons out of them. The scheme of this anime is also very simple. One short story after another follows. They take between 3 to 5 episodes per girl. Most of the girls are real stereo type characters that correspond to every possible cliché. On the other hand, this was also the basic idea behind it, since this monotonous and clichéd type, even addressed in the anime and used several times as a joke.

Apart from that, there is a small story that only starts to move towards season 3 anyway.

However, one should be warned. Anyone who does not get along with this genre will find a heavy lump despite the implementation here. One should approach this work without great hope and expectations.
Genre:

Everything implemented. Of course, the focus was mostly on romance. I would not classify this as a shounen. The target group for this work is somewhat overarching.
Story:

Season 1 has no main plot, at least not in the foreground.
Aside from that, as mentioned, it's just a collection of short stories and romances, with different characters.
Animation / pictures:

The animations are above average and of the color design and the background, very new. This type of drawing style and colors will surely be remembered.
Characters:

Nothing worth mentioning. You have practically a large collection of all 0815 personalities. From sports girls to double braid tsundere, bookworm, idol and so on.

The protagonist is also average. Has nothing worth mentioning and is more or less a completely isolated and game addictive otaku.

The protagonist is a hollow pear of the more positive kind. Less annoying than the usual pear.
Music:

Osts are solid. Openings have a very bizarre and interesting style. It will surely be remembered and has a recognition value.
My conclusion

It is not a bad work. You can certainly look at it if you don't let the direction deter you.

I love this anime because it never tries to trick me. I never felt that this anime would ever develop its plot and it didn't :) For this reason, I would recommend watching the 1st and (2nd if not sure) episodes of this show to gauge whether you like it or not.

Story

There really isn't a story. The main character just goes around trying to kiss specific women that go to his school to stay alive. This simplistic story sets up one of the best entertaining comedies I have ever seen.

Characters

This is a weak point of the anime. There is no significant character development of the main character after the 1st episode. Even the women he conquers eventually become background characters that mostly don't even talk.

Structure

Each season seems to go the same. There are episodes that have to do with conquering women, there are episodes that have to do with the demon doing something girly (somewhat boring), and there is the final episode of the season which has to do with the main character embracing his otaku ways (also somewhat boring). However, I never felt like the anime was becoming boring.

Overall

This anime has a garbage story and terrible character development but is extremely funny. This is probably the best filler animes, meaningless animes, I have ever seen. Please, check out the first couple of episodes! You'll at worst only lose an hour of your life :)

PS: This review counts also as a review for the second season.

I take it u have read the synopsis so let's not bother with the details, yes? This happens time and again..You get a recommendation, you see the 5 stars, the dithyrambique reviews and whatnot and what u get is your puny expectations crushed by the fist of reality...And once more the cause is the easily impressed, whipped generation..God help us indeed...Not this god obviously,he is too busy with his dating sims..

From what i gather this was supposed to be..A parody?!,funny?!...Really?i didn't get any of this..Sure it had it's moments here and there but 2 or 3 rather funny moments in a sea of dangerousforyourhealth blandness doesn't float me goat. The whole premise if the show makes any attempt at funny fall dead and make a sound so huge it can actually hurt dogs. The whole concept would be better utilised in a serious anime..

Kami nomi takes the "different girl in every arc" route but without leaving the steps of a continuous narrative. So when u hit play you find the root of the problem..You see the whole premise of the show is that the MC has become a playboy through dating sims..James freakin Bond is a pussywhipped, useless bum compared to this guy..With no actual experience on human interaction he has the gals dancing at his will..So with some clever work from the writers u are being distracted from the glaring plotholes and from even thinking that a complete antisocial and a practical shut in can not only communicate easily with girls but he can also seduce them...And not in a clever, interesting way..No,it just happens..No reason why,no explanation..In the time it takes u to smoke a fag he has met, charmed and seduced totally a girl..So,if for example u play racing games and go off and take for a drive a 750 horsepower car u should be able to drive like Senna?Of course not..U are gonna die a painful death burning,screaming..You don't get any of that here..

The show is supposed to attack the cliche's,the gals are supposed to represent typical female archetypes in dating sims but there is nothing in the way of twists or a sense of unexpectancy. Some characters are ruined by the horrible pacing. And that's partly down to the fact that the first 2 or so arcs are 1 or 1.5 episode long..This makes u lose sense of the show's purpose. And predictably it becomes boring and stale quite quickly. In the next arc the pace is slower than death.By this time you are too tired and angry..Last arc though hit the spot and almost got everything right,until.....The final episode, which is a pointless filler..There was no reason i can think of as to why they had to end the season in such a stupid way.Makes the whole thing seem like it was joint together by apes who don't know what closure is..The final ep would be a nice way to link us with the MC.In the whole series i honestly couldn't care less if he was found dead.He is so uninteresting it beggars belief. The only character that did it for me was the female demon,Elsie.I honestly believe she made the show 40% better on her own.

So to sum up,quite nice animation, voice acting and soundtracks and so on are quite good but the whole show, while on paper is inventive and makes for some interesting reading,on reality it's lost trying to find a way to bind many ideas together. And a joke or two makes for no redemption.
