The Weathering Continent and Record of Lodoss War are both firmly rooted in the land of Dungeons and Dragons. So, the similar plots involving a small band of heroes are to be expected, but the stylish animation, especially for this kind of vintage, is an unexpected bonus.

Both are shows about dark fantasy worlds and follow a small group of heroes. The character designs are quite interesting and similar in both and they also take place in torn apart worlds. In Weathering Continent this is literal as we see the aftermath of centuries of natural disaster, and in Lodoss War we witness the conflict between good and evil. Weathering Continent has a more unique flair, whereas Lodoss War is quintessential fantasy - dragons, kings, knights, sorcerers - however, both are executed fairly well for their given length. Check the other out if you want another fantasy world to escape into!

Just as in the Weathering Continent, the protagonists in Nausicaaa have to struggle not only with a harsh landscape, but also fellow humans who refuse to leave the buried past well alone. However it deals better not only with the setting, but also the relationships between characters and overall flow of the narrative, you are sure to enjoy it.

Weathering Continent and Amon Saga are both fantasies, but are also dark and moody, something that most fantasies aren't. I think if you liked one, you'd like the other.
