Both series have giant sword wielding mecha, but more than just that. Each has a magnificent story line, that will leave you wanting more each episode. Both tales are out of this world, (literally) with a hero that defies all odds. If you liked one, you would definitely enjoy the other.

Both anime are based on an unexpected meeting between two characters who have different lifestyle, and on an unexpected love too, but Vandread is mainly based on the relationship between characters male and female characters, in both of them, there are great mecha fights, so if you liked Escaflowne and if you like funny situation, you would like Vandread too.
In 2010, the Britannian Empire enslaved Japan using powerful mecha known as Knightmares; in the aftermath Japan was renamed Area 11, and its people began a hard and terrible existence. Lelouch, a Britannian student living in Area 11, has grown up hating the Empire and everything it stands for. One day, in the middle of a terrorist attack, Lelouch meets a mysterious girl who grants him the ability to control minds. Can he use his new power to fight for freedom, or will his hatred twist his good intentions into mindless acts of vengeance?
The artistic style of Code GEASS and Escaflowne seems quite similar to me. Combine with this mecha, a several characters who exist only on chivalry, and plenty of action, and I think you could see Code GEASS as a successor to Escaflowne.

both these shows have well blended romantic love triangles and action. also my two favorite anime soundtracks come from these shows, which are done by Yoko Kanno.

Like adventures where the main thing is fighting, romantic feelings and caring towards other people who have had sad pasts and humorous yet very dramatic fights and events? Well then, you would like this anime because of the similarities and the action! The world of One Piece is full of fantasy, monsters, adventure, tragedy and comedy too! If you liked Escaflowne then check out One Piece or vice versa.

So one moment your a normal person living on Earth, then next your in a fantastic land in the middle of a war?
Both of these titles are similar in nature due to the whole fantasy element, but also more so for the mecha, which resemble medieval Armor. Dunbines look a tad insect like, but still hold on to that European Dark Age look.

Ever notice that when your wisked into an alternate world everyone is after you for your special "abilities"?
Ok, maybe you don't, but the protagonists in both of these titles do!
Both have the main star, sent to another alternate world in which epic struggle is happening.
It also helps that both titles involve some unorthodox mecha designs.
There is a legend of an angel who fell to Earth many years ago, and was forced to marry a man because he held the key to her only way home. Hundreds of years later, sixteen year old Mikage Aya is the reincarnation of Ceres, the vengeful angel, who must now fight for her life against her family and her own twin brother Aki, the reincarnation of her past evil husband...
Although seemingly different on the surface, both stories involve a young girl unexpectedly caught up in a world of magic, with powers of her own that she wasn't even aware of before. Also, both animes involve a love triangle between the girl and 2 guys.
Thousands of years ago, in 11th century BC, an eminent conflict brews between the immortals in the heavens and demons who dwell on the earth. Vision of Escaflowne and Soul Hunter both incorporate a sense of otherworldly political conspiracy as a backdrop for a largely character-centric story. The animation styles have a similar quality, and and there's a sense of contrived esoteric communion involved. While Soul Hunter is more comedic than romantic, and Escaflowne is told form the perspective of a preteen girl, both protagonists take on a fantastic world into which they have been forced. Like one? Watch the other.
Yamato Akitsuki has recently moved to Tokyo, and in order to maintain his less than wealthy lifestyle, he currently works at his aunt's bathhouse. Ever wonder what Escaflowne would have been like if all the magical/fantasy elements were sucked out? I know I never have but if I did I would get Suzuka. A school girl who wants nothing more than to excel at her sport of choice but romantic feelings start to slip in the way. These 2 are so similar in that aspect so if you liked one at least check out and try the other. Escaflowne is WAY better.
