Goblin Slayer

Goblin Slayer

Rumor has it that, in a certain guild in the middle of nowhere, there is an extraordinary man who has climbed all the way to the Silver rank just by killing goblins. At the same guild, a priestess who's just become a new adventurer has formed her first party... and the man who ends up rescuing that party when they get into trouble is none other than the...

Both of these shows belong to the dark fantasy genre and they deal with some sensitive topics. Goblin Slayer isn't isekai, but it has the "another world" feeling to it

TitaniumTits TitaniumTits says

Both are fairly dark stories but we see the evolution of their relationship as the story progresses. Shield hero is an isekai but it feels very similar to the adventuring style of Goblin Slayer. Both also have great fight scenes.

Jaimefm Jaimefm says

Both anime have dark themes. Shield Hero is an isekai and Goblin Slayer is for more mature audiences, but both have similar adventuring styles.

I must admit that I was very surprised with either animes. Let me explain why.First of all, I am the kind of person that has gotten very bored with the "Virtual world" plot that we have been fed massively ever since the initial release of Log Horizon (which is really good let's not deny it) and Sword Art Online (which is quite good plot-wise but overly extended to my mind). I was in a dire need of seeing something different. The Rising of the Shield Hero is an anime that starts in this Virtual World//Parallel World setting which really is a fantasy land and the plot slowly evolues in something that isn't quite what we had expected, in a manner quite similar to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.

What I enjoy is that it isn't your average "aventure", but instead focuses a lot on the Character evolution and both animes explore thoroughly the sides of their characters.

If you liked either of these, you are sure to enjoy the other one!

If you liked this, then you will probably like this too. As they are both isekai fantasy stories, though one takes a darker turn than the others comedic and cheerful take.

both are incradible shows period. They are in the same genra but they have a diffenrent take on the Isekai genra. Both well executed and deserve a watch.

Another isekai where the main character starts from nothing (or worse) and builds his way up in the world. Similar settings, re:zero goes much more into the misery of it all and has much more interesting adventures. Better animated too, besides background characters in a few places.

Virtual3441 Virtual3441 says

The Rising of a Shield Hero is transporting to another world with everyone going against you. Re:Zero has that twist where most people like you so it's fun to see the different point of views since some people were not suppose to be summoned to begin with anyways.

Filerist Filerist says

Both of these animes are about a guy who gets transported to another world. The rising of the shield is a bit more about the gaming aspects of RPG's such as grinding, leveling up and so on. But for Re:Zero it's about a guy who get's transported to another world and when he dies he is revived at the last checkpoint. If you like one the other shouldn't be very far off.
