The Missing 8 takes place on a dystopian planet inhabited by androids. When given the Power of Eight, the androids recieve a soul. Poppy is fascinated by humans but her partner Punk-kun couldn't care less about them. They fight monsters by using her imagination as the basis for his transformation into weapons. One night a star falls from the heavens, bringing with it a human. The anime uses minimal animation, similar to still-frame, but after a few minutes I barely noticed. The story and mystery doesn't give you time to dwell on the unique style. Plotting is fast paced, but balances out with a good build up of mystery that kept me guessing in between fight scenes. The backgrounds are devastated, dark, and beautifully detailed. They look hand painted. Each background scene is good enough to be wall art. The Japanese VAs are spot on and breathe life into these characters. As of this review, the first six episodes are streaming free on YouTube. 😄👍 PG-13, mostly violence.
