THIS IS INVERSELY PARALLEL to The Millionaire Detective anime... But the catch is this anime explores deeper into the dangerously thrill of the syndicate world where our very own average MC will try to conquer the odds and become the greatest (as the title says) "Pretender".

MaxwellCoffeeCat MaxwellCoffeeCat says...

The Great Pretender fandom is made up of pretty much the same people that are in the Balance Unlimited fandom, so there's a pretty high chance if your friend is really really heavily into Balance Unlimited that they're also into the Great Pretender, which is nice to know if you want something else to talk about.

(I'm only one episode in as I write this, but I can see many parallels between the 2 shows already, and I heard that there's a LOT of parallels throughout the show)

They both had a quirky cute Japanese guy and a slick foreigner who just does whatever wants. Its insane and I love it

I REALLY felt the same vibe when watching Great Pretender. They introduce someone who has done something morally/criminally wrong, and then the main cast of characters work on revealing them to the police.

wucchu wucchu says...

Both animes are filled with action, crime, and comedy which make them highly similar. Both of them also include silly plot twists while the main characters get thrown into the world of criminals.

feathertail38 feathertail38 says...

Both have fun heist vibes, but also sudden datrk turns and themes. It is fun to watch the mysteries unravel and the villains of capitalism be thwarted

The two share very simmilar animation styles and pacing, however i would actually prefer Great pretender as the characters are a bit better and the comedy is well done.

The Case Files of Jeweler Richard

The Case Files of Jeweler Richard

One night, a college student with a strong sense of justice, Seigi Nakata, saved a gorgeous foreigner, Richard, who was being harassed by some drunks. When Seigi found out that Richard was a jeweler, he asked for an appraisal on a ring with a shady history; one which his grandmother had kept secret until she died. The appraisal had revealed her past, truth, and desire. It led Seigi to work as a part-time employee for Richard’s jewelry store, the “Jewelry Etranger” in Ginza. While solving various “mysteries” introduced to the Jewelry Etranger, the relationship between Richard and Seigi gradually changes. However, each of them has secrets they have not told anyone.

So far both are great and I highly recommend them. The art in both millionaire detective and jeweler Richard are very similar and the plots are are very interesting and had me hooked by the first episode of them one thing though the plots in the two are similar in a certain sense but they are definitely different story's and situations

Littlesilverwolf Littlesilverwolf says...

Both are anime between 2 man. They are partner together and helping each other to get out of their own truama.

Detective is more towards case of police, while jeweler is more towards selling of jewel and stories about the jewel.

Drpx1 Drpx1 says...

With respects to how the shows are both laid out they are similar. not only is it easy to watch both 'case by case' but they both have an air of similarity in terms of building up. and later plot developments.

Millionaire detective has a sense of bafflement initially, it feels chaotic but is enjoyable in terms of seeing how the characters connect.

And with the case files of jeweler Richard it has a more quircky feel to it but it just lowkey hooks you into it in much the same way as millionaire detective would.

Both are detective themed with comedic situations. There's also a similar trait of money spending and wealth.

I feel like both titles feature a character who is essentially "perfect" and always able to resolve the situation, and the entertainment is in "what absurd methods/process are they goign to use to resolve the conflict?"

Both anime feature a character who essentially "has a voice in their head with apparently limitless resources." Also, the animation for how those disembodied voices "process information" and "resolve issues" seems vaguely similar to me.

Folken24 Folken24 says...

Both series strike me as having a slightly similar visual style, particularly in the character designs of Roger Smith and Daisuke Kambe. Also, both have access to resourcs far beyond the norm, which they use to resolve conflicts (Roger's conflicts in Big O are not technically crimes/myseteries per say, but they often feel like they are).

Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens

Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens

Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens is a gang based story while Fugou Keiji Balance: Unlimited is a detective story. However, both of the stories start with the mysterious and serious charcter getting involved with the talented partner-to-be. In both of the animes the big picture is revealed towards the end where the serious issue is finally introduced. Until then, the characters go thorugh multiple "adventures". There are light-hearted missions to missions that clue to the big serious story. These missions contain a comical side from time to time to keep things entertaining while growing the relationship between the character.

If you enjoy a mystery story with a little bit of light-hearted and comical side, you'll find both of these anime enjoyable.

Same vibe, and two guys buddy up and have adventures. Which high card it is a bit more fantastical than a detective show. But the quality, and animation are on par with eachother here. Characters in high card are a bit more developed than in Unlmited.
