I hired a maid who has something about her I just can’t put my finger on. Sure, she looks great and is a fabulous cook, but something about her’s not quite right. What have I gotten myself into!?

This Summer 2022 co-production by Silverlink and Blade bears an uncanny likeness to J.C.Staff’s 2021 production of “The Duke of Death and His Maid”. The young master of the house falls on hard times and ends up hiring a mysterious maid. The girl is a super all round maid and appears to be excessively interested in the young sir at a romantic level. “The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious” resembles its 2021 progenitor up until the point where the “Duke of Death” is cursed with the ability to accidentally kill anything he touches. Young Yuuri in the Silverlink version has no such curse but he is very suspicious of his wonderful maid who just turns up in his life after his parents pass away. Lilith, his maid, asks for no pay. She will work just for subsistence and, apparently, the pleasure of serving Yuuri. This leave the young man confused about what her motivations are. She seems a little unfazed by his bizarre allegations of skulduggery and ends up charming him into submission. So far so good. But what is the point of this show? There is a hint of mystery to keep viewers hooked. Apparently Lilith had turned up in young Yuuri’s life some years previously. Unfortunately, when the story is revealed at the end of the season it isn’t mysterious at all. A complete let down. Various side-characters pop in every now and again to keep momentum but their appearances are incidental to what turns out to be a practically non-existent plot. The animation is nothing special. Lilith blushes her way through every encounter in clearly a quite inappropriate relationship. Neither she nor the boy seem to know quite what “love” is. This naivety may be a little charming but it starts to become irritating when the audience realise that this is the sum total of what the show has to offer them. The characters don’t really move forward and we have no great coming of age drama to wade through. An empty shell of an anime that is pretty to look at and technically adept. Yet it lacks soul and sufficient plot to make it anything other than barely average. Disappointing.

Satisfying Conclusion?✔️ (mostly just a sol. could continue)Emotional?❌Actual Romance?❌Actual Comedy?❓ (the boy's bluntness is funny at times)Fanservice/Nudity?❌What is this anime?Boy loses his parents, and decides to inherit the mansion they owned all by himself. Just when discovering the massive undertaking it would be, and how underqualified he is to take such a task, a maid appears at his doorstep, and tells him she'll work for free.Did I enjoy it?It was a solid-in-general show. Nothing blew me away, but I had fun, with not many complaints. The comedy is quite different than most. Most comedy scenes revolve around the akward things that the boy, who is brutally honest and has no filter, says. So no matter what it is that he's thinking, he says it out loud. Almost always something super cheesy about how pretty her eyes are or how she makes his heart beat faster, with her then feeling embarrassed. So I feel this show will be a hit-or-miss, with some people loving the dynamic while some find it doesn't do much for them. I personally found it so-so. Past the first two episodes, when the boy gets asked a question, you know exactly what to expect and it doesn't come as a surprise anymore, so much of the comedy is recycled. It isn't so overused that I came to dislike it. It just watered it down quite a bit. spoilers ahead!!!!!! The romance tag on this is odd. There is no romance in this show. The boy says himself that he doesn't know in what way he "loves" the maid. Even if he found that he loves her romantically, it would be a one-sided romance unless the show took a turn into pedo town. There is a story woven through each episode, and by the end of the season, much is revealed. However, the story is very much in the background, with most runtime taking place with SoL moments. In short, watch this if you want a silly SoL about a brutally honest boy and his suspicious maid.
