Ten years ago, an invasion by the Erebonians almost shattered the Kingdom of Liberl. Now Liberl rebuilds with the aid of the Bracer’s Guild, whose mystical use of “Craft” is more intrinsic to the nation’s defense than the army. For Estelle Bright it’s all ancient history. But history repeats; as Estelle and her brother find themselves in the wrong place when mayhem breaks out. When their father’s airship goes missing, they embark on a rescue mission of their own!

The story wasn't bad but the character development was lacking and I found out why. There are 2 seasons of anime before this OVA. They didn't develop the characters because that was all done 2 seasons prior. Unfortunately, as desperately as I tried, I couldn't find any of the previous seasons so it really makes the story rather 1 dimensional because they just dive into the action with noobs like me wondering why and what's their motivation. I'm watching 2-dimensional characters and wondering if they are really 1 and 1/2. The story isn't bad but it falls flat because the characters are alien to anyone not versed in the 1st 2 seasons. I really want to give this story a higher rating but I can't.
This anime just didn't impress me. To be honest, it's the type I hate so, that may taint my opinion. STORY Sadly, you must have played the video game to understand the characters & their motives. The back story is eluded to in a quick flashback however, it just left me more confused. Basically, the plot is; boy meets girl boy runs away from girl to protect girl girl chases boy down ANIMATION Nothing special or out of the ordinary. Just "meh". SOUND A forgetable opening & closing theme. The voice acting works well so, that's a win. CHARACTERS As mentioned before, I never played the video game so, there was no connect with the characters. The main character was supposed to be a strong warrior woman however, she strikes me as clingy as she chases down the boy who left her. Of course, the boy must rescue her every time things get dangerous. Her friends are seemingly useless while they too are supposed to be skilled fighters. OVERALL It was like walking into a movie midway thru. You only get a glimmer of everyone's backstory so, you wind up feeling nothing for the characters. This also meant the plot was confusing as you don't get why the heroes chose to be "bracers" or what the villians' master plan is. It ends up being another half-hearted attempt to make a video game into an anime. I lump this in the same catagory as Final Fantasy (whatever number) or Persona (whatever number) in that if you don't play the game, you are lost.
