The dreams and ambitions of one person, or better yet a whole band, can achieve more than just making it big. As characters of Black Heaven use their skills to save the universe, Beck uses the popular culture of the indie rock industry to capture your heart.

Beck is a slice of life story surrounding a boy who enters a J Rock band. There's a little bit of romantic tension between the the main character and the lead girl, but the story focuses more on musicianship and the skill of the guitar. Try it out if you liked Black Heaven.

Both Beck and Black Heaven are about characters who are trying to live their dreams of making it big in a band, while dealing with the problems that arise because of it. Both shows have great soundtracks too; if you like rock, you'll love these.

DNReno DNReno says...

Both Beck and Black Heaven are based on Rock music and the idea that if you are not satisfied with life as it is, there is always another path you can take. While watching either, you can't help but hope for the success of the main characters. If you enjoyed one of these, I highly recommend watching the other.

Aquarian Age and Black Heaven have a central theme: music. Both involve a protagonist who is involved in a band, and both also have fantastical elements that contribute to the story. Black Heaven definitely has a quirkier feel than the more fantasy-based Aquarian Age, but a fan of one should appreciate the other.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

When talking about music, both Aquarian Age and Black Heaven lead all that is anime. Aquarian Age has more of a story, but both anime have a lot of character development, which helps add more to them than "just" good music.

Gravitation

Gravitation

As a member of a musical duo on the verge of making it into show business, Shindou Shuichi has a lot on his mind -- especially since he writes the songs for his Bad Luck band. His life gets no less hectic when he bumps into Yuki Eiri, a successful yet cynical author extraordinaire, who immediately insults Shuichi’s lyrics upon reading them. Seeking him out to demand an apology, Shuichi nevertheless sees other facets of Eiri’s personality. Can he accept the fact that he might be developing feelings for the novelist who discredited his work on their first meeting?

Although Black Heaven takes a more serious approach to the conflicts in its story, it shares with Gravitation the problems of a person's relationships to the people he cares about. Furthermore, both protagonists have musical careers which sometimes get in the way said relationships.

Great Teacher Onizuka

Great Teacher Onizuka

With a history of leading a motorcycle gang and getting bad grades in school, why would 22 year old Onizuka ever want to become a teacher? Is it to educate young minds or spread the joy of education? Sure, if it involves being able to look up high school girls' skirts! Watch as this would-be educator uses his own life lessons and unconstituted methods as a means to control a delinquent class of students -- students who certainly aren't as happy to have him as a teacher as he is happy to be teaching...

A very good series about an older guy with a sort of rock sensibility who seems to be trying to re-live his youth....... certainly a very different story, but shares a similar appeal in a lot of ways.

Nadesico is fun in the same sort of wacky black heaven way. What better way to follow up a galactic concert by Black Heaven but a talent show on the UN Spacey Nadesico?

Black Heaven and NHK are stories about men who are stuggling to get a hold of their lives. In Black Heaven, it is more of a midlife crisis, while NHK is a struggle to confom to society - and in Black Heaven, it's almost a struggle against it. The shows are similar in their mature and realistic approach the the characters' lives, while still having plenty of comedic absurdities.

An unknown enemy force is attacking the fleet, absorbing the energy force – the "Spiritia" – from the pilots it destroys. Basara does not believe in using force to handle the enemy, and thus he flies out on his red valkyrie to sing to them, hoping that the songs will help calm the battle. Though it is unknown what the effects of the song have upon the enemy, Macross 7 decides to go with this plan and send members of Fire Bomber to the battlefield to sing. If you liked Black Heaven, you might also like this one. White Album is not rock anime but it gives you a picture how cruel JPOP artists can be for new comer when they feel threatened.

Love, Hatred, Jealousy, Betrayals, Misunderstandings, Passion. How many different feelings you can find from this one?
