Pandora Hearts

Pandora Hearts

On the eve of nobleman Oz Bezarius's fifteenth birthday, he and his loved ones gather to celebrate in a coming-of-age ceremony. But after Oz steps under a long-stopped clock and the hands finally move once more - thus fulfilling a mysterious prophecy - he is violently thrown into the legendary prison known as the Abyss by three cloaked intruders. Existing in another dimension, the Abyss is home to lifeforms born within its walls known as Chains; these beings can only live in the real world if they make contracts with humans, binding their power to the person's body. However, there's a catch - in time, the human will be overcome by the Chain's power and then thrown into the deepest level of the Abyss. When Oz wakes up in the Abyss he is quickly attacked by hungry Chains, only to be saved by one named Alice - a Chain who appeared just before he was thrown into the prison. Together, the two make a contract and return to the real world, where they are enlisted into the Pandora organization - a group researching both the Abyss and the trio that threw Oz into it.  Along with members of Pandora, the duo searches to find Alice's lost memory fragments that are scattered throughout the world, to discover the secrets of the Abyss, and to determine if there's a way their contract can be broken without killing either Oz or Alice.

Both anime has a sense of tragedy that touches heart and makes you unable to stop watching. You will want to see more. If you watched one, you will surely like the other. The drawing style is also similar and relationships between Gil-Oz and Luka-Yuki is also very similar as Luka and Gil considers themselves their servants. Also magnificent effects and displays of power with a sense of justice and kindnes, with a little tragedy which gives a bit of romance.

Each of these series focus on rather bishonen characters developing non-customary relationships. In Maria, the characters work on developing relationships with their "sisters" while the relationships in Uragiri focus on people with similar souls. Although Uragiri is more fantasy based, I think that brings each series together. They are both also slow paced with similar art styles and a similar feel between the characters.

I decided to start watching Uraboku on a whim not thinking I'd like it for anything more than the bishounen. However, I am now hooked. Instantly, it reminded me of one of my child hood favorites, "Please save my earth".

Both anime are very, very similar. Both anime are about reincarnation. In both anime we have some transgendered partners, although it is much more obvious in Uraboku as it is the two main characters. Both anime are about love, but both are also fantasy anime which put an urgent task on our characters to please save the earth. Both anime have super natural powers, fights, action, and gore. Both anime have very likeable characters. Please save my earth is old, so it's animation style is not as clean as Uraboku. But both are so similar that it is completely impossible to not like the other if you enjoy one of them :)

The Grail grants the winner any wish they have. But driven by an unyielding sense of justice and self-sacrifice, for what will Shirou fight?

Both series deal with incarnations bringing age-old grudges to the modern world, alongside with magical powers.

While UraBoku is more friendship-driven and Ayashi no Ceres more about lust, both share a dark, sinister atmosphere. Both are very melodramatic with blood and tears plenty.

Of course both feature a mysterious, stoic characacter protecting the main character, and these tough guys seem to share a fashion sense too, in good and bad.

I would see Ayashi no Ceres being more plot-driven and wholesome while UraBoku doesn't seem to reach a climax, at least not now when 24 episodes are out. Ayashi no Ceres also has a horror-vibe while UraBoku is quite completely about human relationships and emotions.
