The second season of The Ancient Magus' Bride.
WIT gave another show away and thankfully it still pretty good, i didnt think the story had a place to go since the first season wrapped up well. Chise goes to a magic university which is a very annoying cliche that occurs way to much in anime. that being said it didnt seem out of the ordinary here and it doesnt get to much in the way so its bearable. the season is not complete but part 2 is already announced still give it the 3/4 episode test if you dont like the new setting or characters then drop it its clearly the focus of the first part and the story kicks up at the end going into part 2. thats the short version ill do a quick detailed (spolier free)review Animation: its suprising pretty similar and has some really nice scenes so big plus sound was alright and but the music was great the Characters is the hard part, the original cast is good still but some of the new side characters are plan boring the story builds up overtime but nothing concrete is ever shown, a couple side plots are interseting but the some feel pointless or really weak setup otherwise the characters drive the first part of the show. im glad Ancient magus bride is continuing hopefully part 2 finishes strong, that all from me thanks for the read and have a good one
I loved the original series. The conflict was personal, it was the self. It made for a great story. I even felt like they treated depression well as something you grow despite its presence in your life. That felt like a great message. You can still have a meaningful life even if you have depression, there are people who care about you, and despite being hard, you can have meaning and help others. This new season ignores that whole conflict altogether and it sufferes as a result. The story problems are mostly due to how new characters are introduced and treated. Season 1, had the spotlight on our Magus and Chise the whole time. Their interactions were some of the most original and real feeling romance interactions to come to anime recently. All of the characters supported their story of growth. Further, the side characters had simple potent back stories, you can't tell me you don't love that dragon despite how long you knew him. Most of the new characters are either human and boring or just plain weird and boring. We don't get interactions between our favorite characters nearly as often. I can't say that I care for any of the new characters, there are too many of them and I can't tell you why any one of them is special. The whole thing feels like a shadow of its past self looking for a new conflict to replace the personal one. I just wanted to see Chise working on more potatoes. I won't go deep into sound and animation as you already know that they are pretty good but I felt like neither were as good as the last season. This season is a shadow of season 1. Though the animation remains fun at times and the name is still there, we lost the story and key characters and thus we lost the charm. Still fun I suppose but it doesn't live up to what it season 1 offered.
**PART 1 SPOILERS, PLEASE WATCH WHOLE SHOW BEFORE SEEING MY REVIEW** When I heard that Ancient Magus Bride was getting a season 2, I was really excited since I first watched it back in 2018 while first properly watching anime. It is interesting enough that we go into the “Chise Going to Hogwarts-like magical school with Elias” arc where she meets new characters Zoe, Philomena, Lucy, Issac and Rian as her classmates. I did appreciate how nearly all of them had interesting but unfortunate backgrounds. I definitely think both Philomenas and Lucy’s backgrounds were amongst the saddest sad especially when it relates to their families. Philomena having a toxic relationship with her grandmother and Lucy’s family being killed by wolves (the second last episode was also pretty tearjerking with them nearly being eaten by the monsters, I’m an animal lover yall) as well as feeling betrayed by her surviving brother. I say Rian and Issacs throwback stories will be talked about in part 2. I also still think Elias and Chise are a potentially adorable couple. As much as there were interesting points within the second season, I find it to be a little weak compared to season 1 with Wit Studio on the side back in 2017. You do see the quality wasn't much brighter in its art and slightly rushed since it is supposed to be split into god knows how many parts they gonna do. I really wish they could have talked more about the wolves that harmed Lucy’s family because we only get a shippet of them escaping the monsters with one of the wolves head and they just were gone. I wanted more man! I hope part 2 will give us hella more details than part 1. Looking forward to October this year (hopefully they will air instead of moving it to 2024)..
