Both start as weak mobs and non-human characters. Both also have game mechanics. Both also have the classic reincarnation story line. But unlike in
"That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime", "So I'm a Spider, So What?"
has her whole class reincarnated with her. So just like in Slime (for short) there are more characters then just main ones.

Both Isekai deal with reincarnation into a different species. learning to deal with new body/abilities and suroundings and rules at the same time. both just want to live, but to live strength is needed

man im ngl to u there completely different dont get me wrong they are still both good but that time i got reincarnated as a slime takes a more system approach and has way better animation in my opinion but overlord there is no system and its just so different to the isekai genre tbh they did not even need it to be an isekai it just feels forced

They both also develop a village in which is also true for rising of the shield hero near the end of the anime. Both shows belong in the isekai faction in which they are transported into another world filled with magic and mysterious creatures.
