Reasons you might like Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 3: Rebellion...

I recommend this for two reasons.  First, both anime involve an alternate world where memories have been overwritten.  Also, both movies are very serious dramas with no comedy.  If you liked Tenchi Forever, then prepare to be blown away by Madoka Magica Rebellion.  One word of advice though, you can't go into Rebellion cold.  It assumes you have seen the Madoka Magica TV series.  Not only does it not explain anything that you would have learned by watching the series (or the two recap movies), but it intentionally plays with the expectations which you should have if you saw the series.  It sets up a situation very much like the TV series, but with several differences, and it expects you to spot those differences.

Also, be prepared.  The third act of Rebellion is heavy on the visual metaphor and symbolism.  You're going to have to do some mental gymnastics in order to keep up with it.  For me, I really enjoy having to watch a movie more than once to take it all in.  Re-watch value is important to me.

I can't recommend Tenchi Forever to fans of Madoka Magica nearly as highly as the reverse.  Madoka Magica is an incredibly well written, intelligent story which outshines Tenchi Forever in every aspect.  I feel watching Forever after Rebellion would be a letdown, but they do share some elements.  If you like stories which take familiar characters out of their familiar reality and put them into a happier alternate world, which seems very "off", then either of these are a solid offering.
