I wanted to give this a higher score because it's entertaining enough for a short show and I like reverse harems. But it just didn't end well. I'm assuming it's done because it's been stuck at episode 16 for weeks.

The characters are all kind of tropey characters, you've met them all before in other shows. The familiarity is nice when you want to sit for a couple minutes and just watch something kinda cute, but there's nothing new going on here.

I think if this show had an actual end instead of just finishing a case and stopping without any decent character growth, I'd give it a 6 or so. But the way it is now, there's simply no justification for giving it anywhere near an average score.

6 eps down the show...

STORY

It's so cute!! Well, there seems to be a good potential development ahead, and even if it started a little slow, the pace has picked up and it's more enjoyable to expect a good follow up. The studio managed to keep it short and sweet. Similar as 'Recorder to Randoseru', with more plot twist, and I guess less comedical.

ANIMATION

They're great, so far still very stable. Oh, and the chibis are super cute!! >.< I appreciate the fact that they have different facial features (not only the hair style and such).

SOUND

Nothing notable. The ED though, it was so decent that I forgot that the MCs are kids.

CHARACTERS

Pretty boys.. Checked
Awkward heroine... Checked
Pretty bullies... Checked
Ikemen (potential) troublemaker... Checked

It's good that they're just at the age of starting their middle school life. Were they at high school age, I guess it'd be some sort of niche 'Kimi ni Todoke'-ish anime.

YOU THERE! YES YOU! But don't worry, I will try try to make this a bit short (okay maybe I lied...). I would  like to say this is an honest review, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so some may disagree with what I will say about this anime.

STORY:

There's already a sypnosis on the website, but let me just sum it up from how I watched it. Aya, who is basically a loner (not that anyone is afraid of her or COMPLETELY shy), meets a group of boys at cram school. They're in a soccer team and they each excel in a certain subject. She befriends them and together, they solve mystery cases. Period. Original? Nah. I like the pacing how it cuts off to the suspenseful parts, but I hate how the episodes are so short! Since I said it was suspenseful, that means it did intrigue me...:P

ANIMATION:

I'm so glad the drawings were NOT bad. I'm super picky when it comes to how the characters look. I did not pay attention to the backgrounds though because they aren't memorable enough. Unfortunately, the actual quality of the anime is HORRIBLE! It's not CG or pixeated to distract the drawings, but you can just see the frame by frame or how weird it looks when they walk. Ugh!

SOUND:

It was good. Not too loud or soft. The only music was the insert songs and the ending theme. NO INTRO SONGS :( ! The insert songs were not memorable, but I definitely love the ending theme. It has the mystery-like tone in it and then it's all happy-happy in the end. I am also very pleased with the voice-acting.

CHARACTERS:

Meh. The characters only had some unique features. They were likable, but not necessarily loved. These characters are of course relatable. This is a personal opinion but... I hated Aya's character! She could of been an amazing female lead, but it just made her look like a girl who can't do anything. In the detective team, all she does is write notes which does.. um.. umm.. NOTHING! The creator could of done a whole lot more if you ask me.

Story (Plot/Originality/Pace): 6

Animation (Quality/Artwork/Character-Design): 5

Sound (Music/Voice-Acting): 8

Characters (Likeability/Relatable/Personalities): 6

Overall (Execution/Entertainment): 6.5

Rated this a 6.5/10. As much as this could of done so much more, it kept me watching and waiting for the episodes. This is probably due to how I like the family-friendly genre. I do not know why, but it's always cheery. Or maybe it's because i just want to see a reverse harem... :P. On anime planet it's ranked in the 4000's! Personally it's not as bad as I thought. Try it out, if you're not hooked, then drop it. If you choose not to watch it, that's fine because you're not really missing much...

*So what did I think about Tantei Team. Well I thought that it was very good for a short anime. First of all, because of the episodes being 9 minutes each, there’s plenty of room to actually tell a decent story in contrary to a lot of other short anime’s that are only 2 minutes per episode. The arcs that were written around the different cases were interesting and had enough development to stay interesting.

*And actually a lot of things in this short anime were well done for a short anime. The animation was really good although the character design was a bit special and it took me a few episodes to get used to. The comedy was decent and usually at the wright time. And to balance the comedy there were also some more dramatical moments. Mostly revolving around Aya’s personality and doubts but it was the clearest in the final episodes were the drama was more abundant than the comedy.

*In these final episodes we also get some romantical development. It’s unfortunate that we don’t get a final conclusion on the romance and I don’t know if that was because of that it happens a lot further in the original novel or that this adaptation just was cut short. I personally think the first because the end of Tantei Team felt like a decent end for this short anime.

Conclusion

So as a conclusion this was a very good short anime. It’s one of the best short anime’s I’ve seen so far. The story was good, the comedy-drama balance decent and the animation more than acceptable. And that’s why I’m going to rate Tantei Team KZ: Jiken Note at 3,5 stars. I would have loved to see Tantei Team as a full anime, that would have worked out even better than this short anime. So it was a very nice addition to my fall/winter schedule.
