therik therik says...

Similar in several ways, K-On! and Taiyou Yakyuu Musume are light-hearted and slow-paced tales about girls working hard for a goal and having fun along the way. The fact that they have different themes - music and baseball respectively - doesn't matter too much, as the anime spend more time on character interactions and general moe than they do on any particular storyline. If you had fun with one of these, the other ought to suit you down to the ground

AirCommodore AirCommodore says...

K-On! and Taishou Yakyuu Musume are gentle slice-of-lives about a group of cute schoolgirls and their troubles forming and maintaining an after-school club. Each has likeable (though a bit underdeveloped) characters and a healthy dose of moe.

chii chii says...

Both anime are basically the same thing. Except in K-On the focus is music and in Taishou Yakyuu Musume it is baseball. A group of children get together and do either musical or baseball activities together while attending regular classes as well as taking it easy the slice of life way. Taishou Yakyuu Musume takes place in the past where k-on is more of a present setting. If you liked one i'm sure you'll like the other.

The clubs they're working on are different, the reasons why they're working hard on those clubs are different and most of the characters are quite different. But both shows focus more on the interactiosn between the characters and the fact that both shows are about a group of girls trying hard to establish their own club and because of that, developing their friendships in these sweet slice-of-life series.

JiroKurumi JiroKurumi says...

Though K-On! and TYM are centered around different themes, forming a band and forming a baseball team respectively, both are similar in many aspects. Both are comedic, cutesy-type slice-of-life anime. In both anime, we see a group of girls getting together to form their club and excelling in it, while at the same time forming a strong bond among themselves. Both have a happy-go, gentle feel to them.

eaper eaper says...

Each of these series are moetastic shows centered around school age-girls going through the trials of forming a club and making it successful, while focusing on a lot of similar humor. If you enjoyed one I'm sure you'll like the other.

There both tales about girls playing baseball. Both of the heroines are going up against stereotypes and other odds. Taishou Yakyuu Musume is has a more older setting, and Princess Nine is a bit more modern, but if you like one, you would like the other.

HKBattosai HKBattosai says...

If you like Princess Nine or Taishou Yakyuu Musume, then you will like the other one because both deal with a group of high school girls struggling to find enough players to form a team and compete with the boys' teams. They both differently deal with equality in Japanese baseball.

Each of these series take place in an unusual setting (1940's or post-apocalyptic Japan) and focus around a group of girls. Beyond that, they had a similar feel to them, and I just feel that these series go well together.

AirCommodore AirCommodore says...

There's not a lot of variety in the "cute girls doing cute things" genre, which is why So-Ra-No-Wo-To and Taishou Yakyuu Musume are so interesting. Sure, they're largely the same cute girls doing the same cute things as in all those other shows, but where they're doing them is the strength of each show, as their settings are far from typical.

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!

Saio Private High School has a long tradition of quality education. However, like many other schools its enrollment and traditions are failing. School is no longer a necessity in the path to quality employment and for that reason, many teenagers are choosing to skip it entirely; this isn’t the case with the newly-transferred Manabi. She may be a whirlwind of humor and vision with her motto of “go straight forward”, but Manabi has the drive to bring the students of this small school both a new understanding of its purpose, and possibly a new joy in life.

Take a girl with drive and enthusiasm, add a bunch of characters with simple but strong personalities, mix well in a broth of moe and add just a tiny pinch of yuri to taste. What do you get? Well, you get both Manabi Straight! and Taishou Yakyuu Musume. The former is a bit cuter, the latter slightly more serious, but both the anime share so many elements, it just makes sense to rec them together.

Fans of slow-paced slice-of-lifers ought to appreciate what both Hidamari Sketch and Taishou Yakyuu Musume bring to the table. Hidamari Sketch is less grounded in reality and more focused on laughs, but both anime deliver relaxing stories, dotted with cute moments. As long as this is what you're after, these two fit nicely together

Saki

Saki

Winning a game of Mahjong is hard; getting the same score every time is practically impossible. So imagine the surprise of the school Mahjong club when Saki Miyanaga walks in and does just that. Despite her dislike for the game, her talent is obvious and it's up to the club members - the top-heavy Nodoka, the energetic Yuuki, the cunning Mako and the permanently in control club president Hisa - to persuade her to join the club and help them reach the Nationals. But even then, will their combined skills be enough to overturn some of the toughest high school players the country has to offer?

Quirky and interesting cast? Check. Teams of girls playing competetive games? Check. Gently implied yuri? Check. While Saki and Taishou Yakyuu Musume differ in both their pacing and their approach to competition - Saki being the more dramatic of the two - they also have several elements in common, which makes me think that people fond of one ought to think about trying the other too.
