One month after Akihiko Kayaba’s game of death began, the death toll continues to rise, two thousand players having already lost their lives to the ultra-difficult VRMMO world of Sword Art Online. On the day of the strategy meeting to plan out the first-floor boss battle, Kirito, a solo player who vows to fight alone to get stronger, runs into a rare, high-level female player. She gracefully dispatches powerful monsters with a single rapier that flashes like a shooting star in the night…

Personally, I think this was a really well animated movie. It includes the normal main characters with the inclusion of Asuna's storyline before SAO. I was thinking this was going to be a full story about Asuna's life before SAO but there wasn't a full story but it does explain some of the things in the first season. I've watched the entirety of SAO and to tell you the truth, I don't think this is better than the first season. (SpOiLeR below) What you get is a very shortly told story of why Asuna ended up at the theatre meeting and how she met Kirito before that. However, the thing I hate most is that a LOT of Aria's story isn't even told very much at all so I was given no reason to really even care about the character. She was a classmate of Asuna and a good friend and that's all there was. The anime also suddenly cuts to them sitting on a roof as friends and no one knows why they're even friends. Or should I say, we aren't even told why she is her friend.  They entirely cut the whole concept of teleporting between 2 floors into walking up some damn stairs that lead you to the next floor. They also cut out Kirito's "being solo" thing which was like a selling point for the first season.  Overall, I feel like there was a lot more that should have been told that wasn't and it was cut very short of something that could've been great but I was let down by all the jumping around. I wouldn't be rating it 8 if it was bad though so I do think it was pretty good in reguards to all of that. However, I do still recommend watching or rewatching S1 if you wan't a more in depth, full story. Thats all. Now go enjoy some anime.
