Please don’t watch “Steins;Gate 0” until after you have seen all the other Steins;Gate seasons and episodes. If you watch it before knowing the entire rest of the story, you will be doing yourself a great disservice. This review will be covering things that took place in the previous “Steins;Gate” anime, so if you don't want any spoilers, I would recommend coming back to this review after you’ve finished those.

Story

Starting from episode 23B, Okabe has lost Kurisu once again, but instead of receiving a video recording from himself and going back in time again to reach Steins;Gate. (Which we see happen in episode 24 of “Steins;Gate”) Okabe gives up altogether and believes that if he stays away from time travel, Mayuri will stay alive and Kurisu’s wishes will be honored. “Steins;Gate 0” is the continuation of this Beta world line leading up to the an eventual WWIII. We rejoin Okabe who is a college student now and hasn’t been to the lab since the “incident.” Though that changes early on, he still avoids going to the lab for most of the anime. Somewhat like “Steins;Gate,” “Steins;Gate 0’s” story can be followed but, is not fully explained until the last 3-5 episodes. Although it really does a nice job at explaining the entire series and formulating it into one solid storyline. “Steins;Gate 0’s” purpose is to explain where/when the video recording Okabe sent came from. That was then received by the Okabe in episode 23A.

Animation

The animation, giving that it was made in 2018, is a lot more vivid and clear than the 2011 “Steins;Gate” was. Personally, I really like White Fox’s animations. They aren’t my favorite, but they do rank #3 on my list. The last few scenes in episode 23 was really cool and well done!

Sound

It took me watching the entire series to get to this point, but I absolutely love, I mean love the soundtrack! It's rare when I’m able to somewhat enjoy if not majorly enjoy every single song and tune in a soundtrack. The variety of random background sounds is kind of impressive too.

Characters

The characters in “Steins;Gate 0” are mainly the same characters we know and love from the previous anime, with a few additions. Though it is the Beta world line they still interact with each other in about the same way. Even if the events in time are playing out much differently than they were in the Alpha world line. They are all still awesome with well written lines.

Overall

This anime, even with all the good things I’ve said about it, can sometimes be a real drag. I appreciate that they explain where the phone recording came from, but it did not require 23 new episodes. Also, this anime is really sad and but still keeps its quirkiness. Episodes 21-23 bring all the joy in life back though, and as I said in the “story” part of the review above, “it really does a nice job at explaining the entire series and formulating it into one solid storyline.”

If you really liked “Steins;Gate” I’d say watch this, but I would also recommend going back and watching “Steins;Gate” episode 24 again just to really bring the anime home.

(PS If you’ve already watched all of “Steins;Gate 0” go back and watch the beginning of episode 1, it was really cool for me to know what that scene was referring to.)

It's simply GREAT, MARVELLOUS, WELL CRAFTED PLOT, WELL REASONED PLOT, it has so much to understand and loved to understand even if it was slow, yeah I felt that it is slow but it's okay if I'm getting a well reasoned plot which can't be questioned.....IT IS WORTH WATCHING!!

If you have watched Steins;Gate and you are planning to watch this then you must know that Steins;Gate is a great storyline and Steins;Gate 0 is the reason and power of that storyline.
