Reasons you might like Cowboy Bebop...

HasseRovdjur HasseRovdjur says...

Both anime are about space travellers that often are in dire need of cash, and their main source of income is solving various jobs: bounty hunting in Bebop and searching for new extraterrestial life in Space Dandy.

Both are usually rather light-hearted and are very episodic, Dandy moreso, and most episodes are stand-alone. Cowboy Bebop has frequent forays into dramatic territory as well, while Dandy is almost always comedic.

Both anime has a similar aspect to sci-fi and space travel, though Dandy features aliens and intergalactic travel, while Bebop is not as advanced. Still, both are similar enough to warrant a recommendation.

Dirty Pair

Dirty Pair

The WWWA, or 3WA as it is affectionately known, is dedicated to one thing: The prosperity and well being of all the peoples of the Galactic League. The Dirty Pair are Kei and Yuri, the 3WA's top crime division female operatives with a 100% clean-up rate. The problem lies in the extreme collateral damage they cause to people and property in the single minded pursuit of their duty; including, if absolutely necessary, the wholesale destruction of cities, continents and even planets! No-one is safe, whether it be criminals, rogue robots, crazed computers and more likely, innocent bystanders!

Both Dirty Pair and Space Dandy are episodic sci-fi space-faring romps with great (and colourful) animation and bitchin' soundtracks, and neither show takes itself very seriously.

Fans of either show looking for another comedic show without an overarching plot should probably consider one of thse.

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

When there's something strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call? No, not the Ghostbusters. Call on Panty & Stocking, the two fallen angels Heaven-sent to clear the surface world of Ghosts – creatures spawned from mortals who met gruesome deaths. At least, that's what they'd like you to think. In reality, they're gun-toting, sword-wielding femmes fatales who lay waste not only to the evil of Daten City, but to all its bachelors and candy treats too. With a healthy dollop of collateral damage and full-frontal nudity, they always manage to save the day. If they can be bothered, that is...

Both series are comedic romps filled to the brim with colourful –bordering on garish– animation and a heavily episodic premise; basically, both shows are just doing whatever they feel like doing in any given episode. A lot of the times they are doing a send-up of a specific movie or genre, with little thought about continuity.

The humour in Panty & Stocking is much more in your face, and the whole show has a lot more attitude and edge than Space Dandy, which is mostly a parodic sci-fi series focusing on breasts. Still, I believe that they are similar enough to warrant a recommendation.
