Once upon a time there were two close friends named Kai and Gerda. One fateful day, in the Snow Queen's castle, the Queen's mirror shatters into a million pieces. The shards are carried by the wind everywhere and, just as the children are playing outside, one of them lodges in Kai's eye and goes straight into his heart. Suddenly Kai becomes distant and cold, and gains an obsession with snow. On one of his most moody days he meets the Snow Queen, who takes him to her castle. The villagers search for him but to no avail. Even when everyone already mourns his death, Gerda doesn't give up and sets on a journey to find him. Can she find Kai and melt the ice on his heart?

This show is a hidden gem. Although the animation looks like it belongs to the 1970s, with lots of still frames panned on the screen, the story and stories within the stories still comes through and are based on the works of Hans Christian Andersen author of fairy tales including "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", "The Nightingale", "The Snow Queen", "The Ugly Duckling", "Thumbelina", and many others. The character's personalities shine on these stories, especially Gerda, but secondary characters are also unforgettable, like The Little Match Girl. Music is good and in accordance with the stories it tells.
