Banner is a squirrel with an exceptional history - found abandoned in the hollow of a tree trunk, he is taken to a farm and adopted by a cat! Growing up on the farm is a lot of fun except he doesn't understand why none of the other cats accept him. One day, when tragedy strikes the farm, Banner becomes separated from his mother and finds himself alone in the world once more. Now he must grow up fast without his mother's guidance, surviving in the forest with all the wild creatures, learning to hone his squirrel skills and, above all, bonding with the other squirrels who understand his true nature.

Gamba, a brown mouse, embarks on a sailing journey with his childhood friend. They gather experienced mice sailors at a harbour. They encounter Chūta, a mouse who has been injured and is seeking help. He appeals for Gamba and Bōbo to assist him in defending the island of Yumemishima and its inhabitants from the cruel and wicked invading Noroi Clan. Gamba elects to sail to Yumemishima with Chūta to help defend the island, and Gamba recruits more mice to join their cause on the island.

Two tin toy mice, a father and child, who can only move when their key is wound, awaken in a toy store, only to get tossed out with the trash. In order to survive the very, very dangerous world, they venture on to find a way to become 'self winding'. Along the way they meet a future telling frog, an animal theater troup, an inventor muskrat and others. Mushka and Mishka are two polar bear cubs in the North Pole; Mushka is thoughtful, and Mishka is daring. While out on their own Mishka befriends Aura, a prank-playing seal, and Mushka stumbles over swan eggs, breaking them and creating havoc in the bird village. When Mu is injured by man, the cubs must take on the responsibilities of their father and save the other animals from the hunters.
