The art and the atmosphere are just as beautiful and powerful in each of these animes. I love a slow-developing romance between the male leads.

In both animes, we have a character who is very calm about liking the opposite gender, while the other is surprised and unaware if it is even possible or okay to feel such a way (understandable).

Even though Given does cover the romance between the main male leads, it mostly focuses on the topic of "loss, grief, and healing." It personally makes me realize the value of being in love with someone. Meanwhile, Sasaki and Miyano give me the sense of, "the birth of falling in love."

Both stories are beautiful, and very well thought out in my opinion.

BlingPing BlingPing says...

They're both gay high school romances, and there are no rape-y scenes like there are in a lot of other yaoi anime.

They're both also just really, really good, high-quality shows.

Sasaki to Miyano does focus explicitly on the romance, though, whereas Given features it more as a sort of subplot.

Both are excellent school life/BL anime. Given has a larger focus on its music story seperate from the romance, while Sasaki and Miyano is very romance-focused. But I think if you like one, you will like the other.

Both are great BLs. Given gives us great music and two great couples. Sasaki and Miyano is sweet and pure and is just lovable in every way. I mean I honestly fell in love with Sasaki and I cant wait to see more of the two ML. These are honestly by far my top two BLs. So if BL is your thing then these two are great choices. Sasaki and Miyano is also good for those who are just getting into BL.

If you want another slow-paced BL anime, I suggest this one. Both animes share a sweet and heartwarming atmosphere. Although the art and the personalities of the characters are completely different, they still share the life of two characters who are discovering their feelings. Very refreshing animes.

Buckylass Buckylass says...

Doukyuusei has a similar kind of atmosphere to that of Sasaki. They're both school life, both have a soft and simple premise and both actually don't have a weird relationship dynamic that most BL have (aka they both have healthy development of relationships).

ToeBeans405 ToeBeans405 says...

Obviously both are BL romance, but besides that both have a similar tone/feel, sort of relaxed and pleasant animation, along with more realistic and healthy relationship development when compared to some other BL.

Evelynnnny Evelynnnny says...

they both have similar story lines as well as relationships. The plot is similar and the characters development is pretty similar too! Both very good LGBTQ+ rep and cute romance.

*this wont be helpful if you're looking for a written recommendation*

i hate that i have to write a recommendation i just think if you like one you might like the other, i cant actually give a whole breakdown of why that is. :'(

anyway one possibly helpful thing i will say, is that i usually watch dub so i can work and im a slow reader, but i really cant watch sasaki and miyano in dub. I know the reason why i dont like the dub but i dont know how to explain it without sounding rude cause im pretty sure its just a personal prefrence thing.

Because have a similar pace in the plot and the characters have a comparable personality. They have several stories gathered in  an episode.

Same warm story about two persons who never expect to fall in love for each other. Even if Sasaki and Miyano is a same sexe couple, both stories are more about the care and connection the couples have. Both cute and easy anime to watch.

Wholesome love, fluff, romance, just wholesome.

A romance story to die for.

I watche this so many times, it makes me feel lonely asf, but thats exactly why i love them so much.

I definetly need a Miyamura and a sasaki in my life in order to keep me alive

astraph astraph says...

Both Sasaki to Miyano and Horimiya are about similar warm, fluffy romance stories that share a similar vibe. While one couple is gay and the other is straight, the romance is wholesome and sweet.

The humor presented in both resembles one another. Both have characters that are easy to fall in love with.

What BL romance fan doesn't love anime where characters slowly develop and discover their feelings? I sure enjoy it.

These two cute animes have completely different personality types of characters, but the chemistry between the couples is about the same wavelength.

Unlike Sasaki and Miyano (SAM), Hitorijime My Hero focuses on multiple couples developing and discovering their feelings. This makes the romance feel a bit more fast-paced since the writer wants to give enough screen time to each couple and other minor scenes.

I personally still enjoy Sasaki and Miyano's pace a bit more though. The art, the colors, and the slow pace of this anime are definitely my cup of tea. The story mainly focuses on one couple; Sakai and Miyano. SAM does have other minor couples, but they do not dive too much into them.

In conclusion, both animes still provide that romance that some bl lovers are looking for.

ermo ermo says...

In both anime love develops from the feeling of admiration.

In Hitorijime My Hero the student admires his match teacher, and slowly realizes, that his feelings are more than just simple admiration.

In Sasaki to Miyano admiration flows maily from kouhai to senpai direction.

In both cases the older person realizes his true feelings first.

Miyuna Miyuna says...

The two of them have the same vibes going on. Also they are both more laid back and highschool related. So I'd recommend that you watch both at least once. Since they are both amazing.

IchigoCake97 IchigoCake97 says...

Ohh goodness. These two animes share two otaku main characters. In Sasaki and Miyano we have a fudanshi, while in Love Stage!! we have a magical girl otaku fan.

Despite having that slight similarity, there are still many differences. Unlike Izumi (the magical girl otaku), Miyano (the fudanshi) is more assertive, calm, and mature.

Needless to say, Love Stage!! is more focused on the comedic side and closer to the margin of the yaoi genre.

Meanwhile, Sasaki to Miyano is more focused on the romance category and nowhere close to the yaoi genre.

Either way. If you finish one or the other, just keep these differences in mind.

Kimi ni Todoke - From Me To You

Kimi ni Todoke - From Me To You

Sawako Kuronuma is just like any other high school girl who wants to make friends and be useful. The only problem is she bears a worrying resemblance to Sadako from 'The Ring!' Because of her reputation, people are not only terrified of her, but small dogs even bark in fear at her presence; in fact, the only person in school who will talk to her is the lively class hottie, Kazehaya. As the pair spends more time together, Kazehaya slowly begins to bring Sawako out of her shell and soon their feelings for each other develop further. Though with her crippling insecurities, lack of social skills, and a series of cruel rumors and misunderstandings, it seems that Sawako's dream of a normal life won’t be quite so easy to obtain.

I KNOW I KNOW, Kimi Ni Todoke is not a BL anime, but hear me out. Both of these animes resonate so much in the romance department. "Sasaki and Miyano" is as beautiful, cute, and fluffy as some shoujo anime like Kimi Ni Todoke.

The romance in Sasaki and Miyano extends as long as your typical shoujo romance anime couples. The rosy pink colors, the shyness, the blushing, the flowers, and the chemistry that builds until the character finally realizes that they are in love ...

Definitely worth trying and comparing the two.

Even though this anime is BL and Kiss Him Not Me is not they both have main characters that are obsessed with BL there are some differences like for example Kiss Him Not Me is about a girl who is obsessed with BL and wants the boys to get together while Sasaki and Miyano is about a boy who loves BL and meets a guy who is in love with him and they exchange BL manga. While in Sasaki and Miyano some of Miyanos classmates have girlfriends who love BL manga.
