both Sakura wars and Raimuro are set in the same "universe" with approximately the same tme period . Also both animes have the same "story" or lack thereof ^_^ with Girls using "spiritual energy" to fight evil in one and Russians in the other. Another similarity is that both are Romantic warstories, set in an alternate history, and the actual enjoyment of the series is girls and mechs slugging it out, humor and the eye candy rather than story/char dev. please note that both series were derived from H games, and thorughly reflect this

Both of these series feature fighting and strong female characters in steampunk alternate history versions of the Taisho Era (1912 - 1926) of Japan. Visually, this is an interesting period for anime to work with, combining traditional dress, '20s technology, and the growing power of the fascist Japanese Imperial Army. Sakura Wars is much more serious than Kurumi, being based on the video games featuring members of the Teikoku Kagekidan (based on the Takarazuka Kagekidan -- the all-female opera troupe) using steam-powered mecha to fight enemies, and features in-depth characters with involved backgrounds and serious art. Kurumi is very cute and light in tone, being more of a cute anime harem genre anime. The "harem" theme is shared with Sakura Wars, however, as the console games were also dating sims. Fans of the Taisho Era, the harem genre, or nifty steampunk mecha should check out both series.

If you liked Sakura Wars then you must also like this. It is considered a classic and is very logical even though you need to pay a lot attention or you will miss them, it is Neon Genesis Evangelion

Like I said earlier you are very likely going to love this because it is very logical and has a very good story. Even though these mechas performance ain't moved really by the spiritual power and electricity alone, it needs a correct mental state of the pilot otherwise its performance is very poor.

I hope you pay a lot attention to little details because they're very logical. I will give you a hint, these mechas are powered by electricty and their size is equal to skyscrapers, so they will need very very thick power cables and when these cables are released they have rocket engines to slow their descent speed, so they won't break.

If you liked Sakura Wars then I think you will also like Gunparade Orchestra. Sakura Wars had awesome character design and a lot style but there was some odd points in story that were strange there.

Well then I must recommend you this one, Gunparade Orchestra, where spiritual power and steam doesn't anymore run these mechas but have still a very good story, character design and the story is logical and it doesn't just have any odd pieces.

I grew up watching these two almost one after the other and they are good combinations to go off of if you're interested in older anime series from the early 90's!
