freakzilla freakzilla says...

Both Hajime no Ippo and Kenshin use more realistic powers which is somewhat rare in shounen anime. The main characters also share some resemblances as they have a funny side and a serious asswhooping counterpart. (Though Kenshin uses actual double personalities.)

VivisQueen VivisQueen says...

Looking for unparallel shounen fighting to make you weep manly tears? You can turn to either Rurouni Kenshin or Hajime no Ippo. Both provide duels of incredible excitement between super-awesome characters that'll move you for all their tragedy. The one thing to look out for is the incessant filler in Rurouni Kenshin, which doesn't exist in Hajime no Ippo. But if you like one, you'll find the same kinds of thrills in the other.

Rurouni Kenshin and Trinity Blood both have main characters that are very kind hearted and do not want to hurt anyone. However, deep inside these characters there lies a killer that they try to hide, yet is always encountered.

tasanime tasanime says...

What really strikes me as similar between the two action series is not the central plot but rather the central protagonist. Both will avoid harming others often at the risk of their own lives due to the fear of their greater power and the man they become when they must use it. However the beauty as a viewer is watching this inner-turmoil they strive to come to terms with, evident when paired with the desire to protect others and then the inevitable released form of their true strength at a greater risk to themselves than the ones they fight

Fullmetal Alchemist

Fullmetal Alchemist

Once upon a time, two brothers passed the happy days of their childhood by studying alchemy, which is governed by the equal transfer principle: an eye for an eye -- you can't get more than you give. But these brothers tried to defy that law, and a horrific accident resulted. Now, the older brother, Edward, is called the Full Metal Alchemist because of his metal limbs, and the younger, Alphonse, is a soul without a body, trapped within the confines of an automaton. Together they search for the power to restore themselves, to find the lives they lost so long ago...

Aisushi Aisushi says...

One is an old classic of a samurai in Meiji era while the other is about an alchemist in an alternate universe, so at first glance you'd find the two series to be vastly different.

Kenshin (Ruruoni Kenshin) and Ed (Fullmetal Alchemist) share a lot of traits - peace-loving but do not shy away from conflict, determined, courageous and unflinching in the face of violence.  Both protagonists have something in their past that they are trying to atone for.  They seek salvation for what they did in the past, what they were directly responsible for.  They firmly face the future, only looking back at their past to remind them why they've taken the paths they did. (Physically speaking, they have long hair and possess short stature. ^_^)

Plot wise, they deal with politics, war, and how the two affect each other.  The characters deal with betrayal, greed, and corruption.  There are struggles between duty and personal wishes, and as they question what is right and wrong, so do you.

Both series are funny and heartbreaking in turn, although the play on emotional aspects is more evident in Fullmetal Alchemist than in Ruruoni Kenshin.

tsurugiayame tsurugiayame says...

Both of these anime are based on strong emotions. Kenshin and Edward have both committed a sin in their past and now they try to atone for them. Kenshin protects his beloved with his reverse blade sword, Ed and his younger brother Al want their bodies back and on their way they found out terrible truth about their possibilities. They swore not to hurt anyone so they chose the difficult and long path that doesn't break their oath.

There are many characters to love in both anime beginning with the main characters and ending with great episode characters. I dare compare Winry to Kaoru and Saitou Hajime to Roy Mustang. If you don't believe me, watch it and decide for yourself.

Also, if you look for fun, those anime won't disappoint you. Keshin's "Oro" moments are as hilarious as Edward's "did-you-say-I-m-so-small-you-can't-even-see-me??!!" moments. But those funny scenes won't kill the seriousness of the whole story. It is just a part for you to take in breath and watch on.

theorangeeggplant theorangeeggplant says...

rurouni kenshin and fushigi yuugi both have a somewhat similar plot seeing as they both take place in a not yet modernised setting and they both have some good looking guys beating the shit out of 'bad' guys. secondly they both brought about a very similar atmosphere their light heartedness mixed with a good story and a dab of romance (although i will admit fushigi yuugi does have a bit more than a 'dab")

animekid95 animekid95 says...

The reason why I liked both Rurouni Kenshin and Fushigi yuugi The Mysterious Play is they are both part of 90s anime cuz I love watching a lot of anime because Rurouni Kenshin came out in 1996 and Fushigi yuugi The Mysterious Play came out in 1995 which is a year before Rurouni Kenshin why because they are both where part of 1990s anime both Rurouni Kenshin and Fushigi Yuugi The Mysterious Play are those kind of anime shows that got me hungry for more anime to watch because I love watching tons of anime Rurouni Kenshin is more different from Fushigi yuugi because it takes place in like the fifth year of the Meiji Restoration in 1868 for Fushigi yuugi The Mysterious Play however Miaka Yuki is an ordinary Junior High School student who is suddenly transported into a world of a book the universe of the four Gods surrounded by enemies with Mystic powers Miaka can only count on her Celestial Warriors and the Mysterious Monk disciple of the Oracle to help her fill fill her Quest because Fushigi Yuugi The Mysterious Play is more different from Rurouni Kenshin.

Jaimefm Jaimefm says...

If you like awesome sword fights that take place in the past you will probably like both these anime. While Dororo is more of a fantasy and Kenshin has a lot more politics involved, I really believe fans will enjoy both.

Mayank Mayank says...

Kenshin and Dororo might seem a lot different from one another, and that they are. However, they do share enough similarities that you should like one if you enjoyed the other.

  • Satisfying swordplay
  • Strong MC
  • Historical era (though Kenshin is set quite later)
  • Supporting characters that look out for the MC and vice versa

One Piece

One Piece

Long ago the infamous Gol D. Roger was the strongest and most powerful pirate on the seas. As he was about to be executed he revealed that he hid all of his wealth, including the legendary treasure known as One Piece, on an island at the end of the Grand Line - a treacherous and truly unpredictable sea. Monkey D. Luffy is a spirited, energetic and somewhat dim-witted young man with a very big dream: to find One Piece and become the Pirate King! However Luffy is no ordinary boy, as when he was younger he ate one of the Devil's Fruits and gained its power to become a Rubber Man. Now in this grand age of pirates Luffy sets out to gather a crew and sail to the most dangerous sea in the world so that he can fulfill his dream... and maybe even his appetite!

though these two anime are set in different "universes" with a different plot, the core idea behind both is the same, that being shounen fighting anime with tons of humor, and more importantly the central charecters in both are very similar, in that both Kenshin and Luffy are strong, reliable, laid back and most of all THE GOOD GUYS(TM) Also the bad guys in both serie are clearly defined, unlike in most animes where there is no clearly defined "good" and "bad". All in all, this is exactly what you expect from a shounen fighting anime, which streches out to hundreds of episodes.

Rurouni Kenshin is a lot more serious than Samurai Girl, but Samurai girl has things Rurouni Kenshin doesn't have: A bit of fanservice, more comedy and mosters. Rurouni Kenshin plays in the past, while Samurai Girl is more of this time. If you are looking for something more fast paced and with more humor, check out Samurai irl. If you like historical settings and rather have a more serious setting than Samurai Girl, check out Rurouni Kenshin.
