Both protagonists are sent to another world, a fantasy medieval one plus, they are surounded by girls. Though the protagonists are a bit different. KONOSUBA is definitly not as dark of a story line than Re: Zero but they are both enjoyable. They both have romance too.
Both anime feature a young man finding himself in a different world. In Japan, he was a shut-in that played RPGs, so he thought he knew what to expect. But actually living in this new world is nothing like he imagined. Both of these anime take the RPG style and make the protagonist one of the physically weakest cast members, allowing a lot of plot development. If you like one, try the other.
It's quite simple. I wanted an Anime with a weak main character and strong supporting characters. In a world not alike the main characters used but still being one that they can understand or relate to from media in their past life.
Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic Otaku who spends his days on games and manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction. As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon...

Both of these animes are about a guy who gets transported to another world. The rising of the shield is a bit more about the gaming aspects of RPG's such as grinding, leveling up and so on. But for Re:Zero it's about a guy who get's transported to another world and when he dies he is revived at the last checkpoint. If you like one the other shouldn't be very far off.
Both are two the best of the isekai genre.
Both balance a serious story with fun and comedic moments.
Both share very likable characters.
Rem and Raphtalia are two of the greatest best girls in recent years.
Both of them are isekai series' with more of a dark fantasy setting, and with protagonists that are a bit less... run of the mill. They still have the whole "otaku summoned to a video game-like world" sort of theme, but there's a lot more depth to these protagonists than we've seen in other isekai anime.
Takemichi Hanagaki is a freelancer that's reached the absolute pits of despair in his life. He finds out that the only girlfriend he ever had in his life that he dated in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, had been killed by the ruthless Tokyo Manji Gang. The day after hearing about her death, he's standing on the station platform and ends up being pushed over...

Both anime feature a protaganist with time abilities that aren't very reliable and have to see friends die, then go back to save them. Takemichi can go back into the body of his middle school self and cause a chain reaction into the future, while Subaru has 'checkpoints', usually around a day before. The obvious differance is that Re:Zero is an isekai set in a fantasy world, whilst Tokyo Revengers is set in the modern day (or the past) of our own world.
If you're able to weather the cringe of either of these then you'll enjoy the other.
The goals of these two stories are similar but the setting and how its told are very different. For how immature TR is, it does have quite a few mature topics as well.
both follow the time travel theme, going back in time to redo their decisions. both mcs are traumatized from witnessing their friends die over and over again, but dont give up. and the openings for both shows are good lol
