Pokemon Movie 22: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution

The Team Rocket scientists attempted to make the most powerful Pokemon in existence and they succeeded. A clone made from Mew’s DNA, Mewtwo was enraged at his existence as nothing but a tool for fighting. In his anger, he destroyed the Team Rocket base and established a base in the middle of the ocean, inviting strong trainers to come and face his army of super clones. When Ash and company are invited to the island, Mewtwo’s intentions become clear and it’s up to them, the other trainers, and all the original Pokemon, including Mew, to stop him. The battle of Pokemon vs. clone begins!

Keep in mind that this is a review of the English dub. This film lacks any emotional impact and just barely appeals to nostalgia. The human character models border on the uncanny valley, their teeth being particularly disturbing. The script is absolutely abysmal and feels like it was composed by a part-time intern with zero previous writing experience. None of the characters have any depth with the possible exception of Mewtwo. Even still, it's only skin deep. The music is nothing to write home about either unless you'd be fond of a bastardized version of the original opening theme during the introduction credits. That's right, you read that correctly. Introduction credits about 20 minutes into the movie. On top of that, the film lacks music entirely at any time when it would be impactful to the viewer. The character animation is sloppy and seems rushed. This is the type of quality you'd expect from a loosely organized fanmade project not a professional production studio. The Pokemon models and the environments are the only redeeming factors. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, neither to newcomers nor to fans revisiting the series. Keep your fond memories of the world of Pokemon and give this movie a hard pass.

I liked seeing the different animation style (Things such as the slightly more realistic fire on the pokemon were awesome) and some of the scene changes they made so that they made more sense (No longer a ro k type being one shot by a thunderbolt), but the complete lack of the original soundtrack annoys me and is why I don't think thios movie was as good as it chould have been, espeically in the clone fighting scene, the lack of "My Brother" takes away all the emotion I felt in the original during the fighting scene.
