I made the mistake of watching this 11 episodes after watching the final match between Ash and Lionel, thinking this would be something exceptional. I was wrong. They took the series that was made to say goodbye to Ash as a character for around 26 years and made it 100% filler. Nothing happens here that couldn't have happened in any of the previous seasons. It could have been something special, but far from it. Instead of showing Ash's growth, they show us his regression in becoming more childish with time. Nothing really happens, to be honest; Ho-oh doesn't appear, Ash's dad doesnt appear, Tobias doesn't appear, Ash doesn't catch any pokémon, he doesn't defeat Team Rocket once and for all, there are no battles... He spends all the show the same way he spent it for over a thousand episodes: goofing around in a forest and swatting off Team Rocket. It felt like watching the same episode over and over again. The series suffer from the same as the games: Very low effort cash grabbing that thrives in the success of their past, and this was the epitome of that illness. Even I felt attracted to watch this final show, only for it to be the most insignificant filler ever. Journeys give a far better ending to Ash with that encounter with Butterfree than this in it's roughly 4 hours of show. I really can't recomend watching it. It's really not for first generation fans, and even the newer fans will be able to see how lacking this show is.
Thank you Ash Ketchum, pikachu, Brock, Misty, Tracey, May, Max, Dawn, Iris, Cilan, Bonnie, Clemont, Serena, Lillie, Kiawe, Mallow, Lana, Sophocles, Goh and Chloe. You've really made an incredible show that people have been ecstatic to watch for decades. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for being amazing.
