Both series initaially take place in a VRMMORPG setting. Both series also have a point where something happens and the Player Characters (or more precisely in Overlords case, Player Character) become trapped in the virtual world they had been logging into. Their new world becomes their reality and they must choose what the path ahead of them is. Try to find a way "home" or take over the "world"?

Death Note Rewrite - The Visualizing God = Overlord: Fushisha no OuExcited for some new animation for a beloved series, a sidestory featuring a character that could be fleshed out, or a new perspective on how certain events went down, you are looking in the wrong place.While both of these may appear to be providing new information they are simply recaps with a few tweaks.
While Ryuk does make an appearance from the Shinigami realm in Death Note Rewrite and there are some new scenes in Overlord: Fushisha no Ou, neither compilation adds anything of significance to their respective series.
Unless you are too lazy or too uninterested in either anime to watch all the eps time would be better spent on watching something else.
However if you did enjoy either you’d probably like the other because they are basically the same. For people who like spoilers and/or those who simply don’t care because the anime doesn’t spark enough interest to invest the time necessary for watching the full series these work as a way of getting a jist of what went down in 25 eps [Death Note] and 12ish eps [Overlord].
Neither recap covers the full events of the series so if you are looking to bypass the time needed to watch 37 eps of Death Note and the first season of Overlord then you’re still not over the hill with either of these, you’ll have to invest some more time if you wanna see what happens in the finales.
