One day, the crew of the Going Merry stumble across a small island which houses Bonnie and Max, two pirates who have recently escaped from their ship. They are accompanied by three young children, including Amanda, a young girl who holds the secret to a hidden treasure. However, Amanda is captured and the pirates responsible make their escape, but not before the half-asleep Luffy launches himself onto their ship! When the pair are taken to Captain Bayan, whose formidable Symphony Conductor has the power to control people – including Luffy - their trouble really begins. Now, with the Straw Hat Pirates being forced to fight against their own captain, will they still be able to stop Bayan and help Amanda find the treasure that her father lost his life to protect?
I liked this special more than some of the movies. It had a great story and the hint towards the twist was amazing. The message of the movie was also great. The weakest point of this special was the antagonists. Only one of them had and interesting pover and they were easily defeated.
Once again Nami shows how useless she actually is, again. Luffy's actual potential is shown by someone else controlling him. He actually comes off as a super badass. Then the old story of Santa Luffy comes around and rears its ugly head. Pros: More story, maybe. Cons: Music must be improved again, Unoriginal story. The straw hats help a child and her siblings not only get revenge but also find the treasure their father left for them. Oh and here comes the bad guy who killed the dad, deja vu is this a repeat? Not a really impressive power overall (Controlling people with a song), and only one bad guy to fight(excluding mini-boss). It was over in 2 seconds, unenjoyable and not exciting. Not a single scratch was put on the good guys, yawn. Not really worth watching IMO, only for the diehards and completionists.
