Steins;Gate

The eccentric mad scientist Okabe, his childhood friend Mayuri, and the otaku hacker Daru have banded together to form the Future Gadget Research Laboratory, and spend their days in a ramshackle laboratory hanging out and occasionally attempting to invent incredible, yet generally useless, futuristic gadgets. However, their claymore is a hydrator and their hair dryer flips breakers, and the only invention that’s even remotely interesting is their Phone Microwave, which transforms bananas into oozing green gel. But when an experiment goes awry the gang discovers that the Phone Microwave can also send text messages to the past. And what's more, the words they send can affect the flow of time and have unforeseen, far-reaching consequences...

Both of these titles have a strong base in science and if you like Science Fiction that uses a lot of real science then you may enjoy both titles. One thing I will say is that Noein has a very unique animation style, but both seem to have a good story/plot.

nitromonkey nitromonkey says...

Both have a decent sized cast, with a timetravel-esque plotline, but the real reason i'd reccomend these two is the fact that it mixes real scientific theory with fiction, while at the same time focusing on the relationships between the cast of characters.

DempseyROLL DempseyROLL says...

Steins;Gate and Noein both deal with time travel and alternate universes.  I highly reccomend both if you enjoy this variety of science fiction.

snivets snivets says...

The themes of these two shows deal mainly with time travel. Instead of focusing on the actual technology, the story focuses on the relationships between the characters in a world that is changed by the effects of time travel. These are two great sci-fi anime, either would appeal to fans of the other show.

lumi lumi says...

Both deal with parallel universes , quantum mechanics and time-space travel, and have an intriguing argument.

SuriZen SuriZen says...

In both anime they focus on Sci-fi elements with some science attached to it. Noein uses a slice life approach to explore these concepts along with some action sprinkled in, while Steins;Gate explores the psychological side with a more serious and darker tone.

Ergo Proxy

Ergo Proxy

In a futuristic world almost barren of life, mankind is confined to mechanized domed cities where A.I.’s control all aspects of life. In this world, humans are no longer born, they are manufactured in a production line; and alongside them live androids known as autoreivs. Within one of these domed sanctuaries named Romdeau lives Re-l Mayer, one of a few citizens who aren’t entirely prevented from thinking. Her grandfather's prominent position and the affection of the scientist Daedalus have left her more free will than is normally allowed, but Re-l has started to question the sanctity of the city and the citizens' perfect way of life. With mysterious beings known as proxies causing havoc and a man named Vincent causing great influence on her life, Re-l must travel outside of the city to find the answers she seeks and discover the mystery behind "the awakening".

Beautiful animation, deep well thought out characters and a background firmly rooted in science make these series an intellegent choice for someone who prefers a more intellectual series.

The series have many differences, but both have a kind of "otherworldly" feel to them, and hold the possibility of becoming a possible future. Don't expect a lot of fast paced action, these series are designed more to stimulate your brain and start you thinking. Saying that though, there is still plenty of action to keep you engrossed to the end.

Anathemus Anathemus says...

There are some similarities to be found in Ergo Proxy and Noein in terms of theme, plot and feeling. You will find loads of mystery and a huge sense of lostness on both anime, you'll find yourself asking "what the hell is going on" a bunch of times throughout both shows, there's also a melancholic and quirky touch added to them. I recommend the two if you're a fan of mysterious Sci-Fi and if you don't mind watching something that you can't clearly understand, finding it out will be the funnest part.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Ergo Proxy and Noein both deal with technology and have a similar approach of the main characters in dealing with the problems around them.  Very intellectual series shrouded in mystery.

4EverDreamer 4EverDreamer says...

These both have a similar feel to them. They are dark and deal with deep themes about creation and truth. The main male characters are mysterious and have special abilities. If you like eerie stories that make you think, then Ergo Proxy and Noein are great!

Rel7 Rel7 says...

Both animes look at alternate realities and introspection into oneself. Both are on my favorites list.

Neither of these shows are that similar though both provide unique sci-fi elements. Something about one makes me think of the other, but I am not quite capable of figuring it out. So just call it a gut feeling, I think someone who enjoyed one would probably enjoy the other. Just be sure to not give up on Gilgamesh before finishing the first 11, more or less, episodes. After that it grew rather quickly to something excellent, though the beginning isn't bad by any means, just bland.

tasanime tasanime says...

A shared neo-apocolyptic world view, the battle between opposing fractions seeking a greater power and the strength of human relationships within this, are what really what bind these two series. Either will prvode and interesting take on the future of man.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

The whole entire neo-apocalyptic feeling of Noein and Gilgamesh bring the two stories together. The elements of each derive from the same feelings of mistrust and speculation shared by all of the key players in the series. The series beg the question of what humanity really is like and how people become the way they are. When people need to have all the power they can, there are casualties that befall.

snivets snivets says...

Both of these sci-fi shows have a similar slow pace at the beginning, but once they get going, hold on, because things get pretty crazy. Common to both is the idea that technological advancement carries huge risk for the world, with a focus on relationships under the pressure of impending apocalypse and being hunted by various organizations who seek control of the world.

Den-noh Coil

Den-noh Coil

In a futuristic world, the virtual world is merely a layer on top of reality; within it, cyberpets are abundant and information is plentiful, and it is only visible by wearing special cyberglasses. In Daikoku City, this cyberspace is behaving strangely: cyberpets are going missing, dark entities known as "the Illegal" roam obsolete space that shouldn’t exist, and a large pink antivirus program known as Satchii wanders the streets, attacking both virus and pets alike. Sixth grader Yuko Okonogi has just moved to Daikoku City, and after cyberdetective children help her rescue her lost dog, she soon joins the others in a search for the truth behind these strange occurances.

Both series fit within the sci fi category, and deal with a group of young children.  While Noein has more serious undertones than Denno Coil, each have elements of comedy while still retaining a very realistic feeling with complex and true characters.  If quality animation is something you look for, this series is for you.

Nocturnalgloria Nocturnalgloria says...

Denno Coil and Noein tell rather unconventional stories in which children must deal with extraordinary circumstances such as a cybernetic world that mingles with reality in the first case and time travel in the second case. In both cases, a different dimension threatens to bring about destruction and the possibilities that arise from the existence of different worlds is handled in an intelligent and highly original way. For a fresh take on sci-fi themes with out of the ordinary character designs and very fluid animation these titles are a must see.

Uriel1988 Uriel1988 says...

Dennou Coil is also a sci-fi adventure revolving around children whose world is crossed with another 'universe' (virtual reality in this case). It also boasts endearing characters, a well-developed world with unique sci-fi elements and some surprisingly cool action-scenes. So if you liked Noein, check out Dennou Coil.

Htieks Htieks says...

First of all, technology and mystery are importantfeatures that these two anime share, along with a somewhat supernatural feeling thrown in the mix. However, what makes the resemblance particularly striking is the choice of characters: they're children who face both the unknown and weird events (either in a cybernetic space or in an alternate future dimension) and the more "normal" problems they find during their lives; thus, while they're mainly sci-fi stories, both anime have a lot to do with growing and accepting reality. So, if you're looking for some of these elements, Noein and Denno Coil are perfect choices.

Fantastic Children and Noein share the same feeling of mystery, have unusual graphics, involve children, and deal with questioning the characters' identities. Fantastic Children is darker than Noein, though. If you liked one, you'll surely like the other.

Animedreamer240 Animedreamer240 says...

Fantastic Children and Noein are both directed towards a younger audience, however; the stories are told through an intricate world with complex reasoning. Both anime are a sweet combination of science fiction and fantasy, and their plots deal with similar issues such as time travel and exploration of another world. There is also a heavy use of supernatural powers from characters of both anime. (example: flying, creating energy beams, running at the speed of light)

oryx oryx says...

The first thing i noticed between the two, were the smilar characters. lots of characters, dressed in black, from a different timespace/world. with a similar mission on earth.. to bring back a certain person. Both are pretty dramatic, altho Noein surely isnt as dark as Fantastic children, still.. if you watched one, i bet you'll see the resemblence right away!

Chez Chez says...

Fantastic Children and Noein are both thrilling sci-fi mystery series that include themes of time-travel, voyages to other worlds, and questions of character identities.  They each have a young girl who a group are after, and a lad who is determined to protect her as much as he can.  Both series are very dramatic, although Fantastic Children is definitely more emotional.  The graphics of both series are unique as well.  If you enjoyed one of these, I'd definitely recommend the other.

In both these sci-fi shows, a group of children learn the dark truth about their world and have to deal with it as best as they can.

The two series also contain some unique visual aspects and their stories rely heavily on the psychology of the characters.

snivets snivets says...

From the New World starts out with a bunch of kids getting involved in things that are way over their heads. The beginning of Noein has a similar situation, feel and pace. These are two well-animated, interesting shows that I think would appeal to most sci-fi fans.

Sianeka Sianeka says...

If you liked either Noien or From The New World, you should check out the other one.  Each has the similar story premise of kids who find out that that the world they live in is not actually as it appears on the surface and is instead, a much darker place.

Then, the main protagonist (female in both instances) needs to adjust to this new reality and society's dark secrets in order to save everything that matters to her.

Psychological and moral issues come into play for both shows.  I really recommend fans of one to check out the other.

hitkid96 hitkid96 says...

Both follow kids wrapped up in a mysterious plot with supernatural elements. From the new world deals with psychic abilities in a dystopian world while Noein deals alternative timelines.

Did the questions asked in either Noein or Lain catch your attention? Especially the ones about reality and one's existence which are based on scientific theories? While watching both of these, I was rubbing my head, thinking and thinking some more. They are really great science-based anime.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

Both Noein and Lain are hard anime to keep up with. If you're not careful you might suffer some brain damage trying to put the puzzle together. Both deal with pretty advanced and realistic topics of our world. Noein couples a good story with quantum physics, while Lain couples a darker atmosphere with more psychological aspects.

tasanime tasanime says...

Noein and Lain are definately the 'thinkers' kind of anime. They both manage to really challange the viewer by subtley asking questions about life, the theory behind it and how we perceive it. If you enjoyed the scientific theory and the baffling effect that one had on you, you will surely be as confused and dazzled by the other!

Both of these anime deal with time travel, confusing powers with convoluted storylines, and are set in contemporary worlds that are in danger of being destroyed.

They also are both very similar in how the dramatic and comedic elements of their stories are told.  And are scored with music that sounds unique and hauntingly beautiful.

I would say that Noein is the better anime out of the two, because while both are extremely convoluted, Blast of Tempest gets pretty rushed in the third act and unravels quite a bit.  In terms of animation Blast of Tempest is a lot cleaner and flows better with a better use of color (I'm sure uses more computer animation techniques).  Noein seems to have more of a hand drawn look (especially during action), which isn't bad, but it can be a little bit distracting and take me out of the story a bit.

Jakounezumi Jakounezumi says...

If you like Noein you'll likely also like Tempest and vice versa they have a similar feel and stories that are not completely dissimliar.

Both are fairly nonsensical, poorly paced shows about grandiose but awfully executed plot, with characters that fail to convey personality due to blandness.

Noein and E7 remind me a lot of each other. Not only do both have a good plot involving a bit of futuristic science, but the mix of emotions ranging from sadness and despair to hope and love make these two a great recommendation for each other.

Brank Brank says...

Both Eureka Seven and Noein have confusing stories where you don't understand a lot until the very end. Also, the main characters have similar complex feelings. The story in these two anime is mostly similar because if there are no battles, it's the sentimental life of the main character that becomes the main plot. If you liked one, you will certainly love the other.

Noein and Fafner have complex stories in which the characters are well developed. In both anime the characters need to work through their hardships from facing foes, and through the psychological damage from their pasts. Because of these aspects together, Fafner and Noein should appeal to the same viewers.

Both animes are very similiar in terms of their complexness. Although Noein doesnt really have any giant robots, they both still walk down the path of the Technology element where lots of technology is involved. Futuristic animes are very intresting to watch so if you watch only one of them, make sure you watch the other!
