Both Azumanga Daioh and Nichijou are comedic slice of life series set primarily in a school environment. Both shows alos feature a fair amount of random comedy that can be just plain bizarre at times. If you like one, definitely try the other.

Both these series have a very random moments that will be leave you saying "What did I just watch!? O_o" But very funny nontheless.

If you enjoyed Azumanga Daioh or Nichijou TV, chances are you're going to enjoy the other as well.  Both Azumanga Daioh and Nichijou TV are school animes that revolve around the life of the female students.  They're funny, slice-of-life animes that make humor out of random events.

Zillia Zillia says...

Azumanga Daioh and Nichijou, well, dang it! They're just so alike in so many ways! Such similar art style, such similar comedy style, huge range of silly, over the top characters! But... at the same time they're different in so many ways that makes them both epic to watch! Seriously, if you liked either Azumanga Daioh or Nichijou, you're definatly going to like the other!

chii chii says...

Both are about a group of students that attend the same school and do nothing but goof off more than half the time. Cute girls doing cute things these 2 couldn't be more alike.

nosaint317 nosaint317 says...

The simularities are plain too see, they both are about high school girls(counting the robot high school girl) and there day to day lives(however unusual they may be). Both shows offer young geniuses, idiots, slap stick humor and some WAY over the top situations(though I believe Nichijou has Azu beat in the last 2 categories). But I highly agree that if you enjoyed one's random humor, you'd probably enjoy the other's...

HasseRovdjur HasseRovdjur says...

Azumanga Daioh and Nichijou are two series that are heavy on the screwball comedy and fairly low on the slice of life. The focus is more on the fast-paced antics that ensue from the characters interacting and being generally larger than life than more mundane situations, like drinking tea or wandering around town. If this was something that interested you in either work I can recommend that you check out the other.

cikinimey cikinimey says...

They are both hilariously funny. They use stupidy in to something funny, and are also about school life. You don't need much "intelligence" to understand, like Lucky Star.

Both are set in schools and about a bunch of girls. Cute girls doing cute thing.Azumanga Daioh will remain the God of this genre but one should enjoy both.

Ailly Ailly says...

These two are like the epitome of school girl, slice-of-life anime. You'll find yourself watching a group of high school girls doing the most random of things and laugh your ass off. There's the idiot, the quiet one, the polite one and many, many more! The randomness-level of Nichijou is way higher, which may make or break the deal for you. Aside from all the comedy there are also some genuine sweet, fluffy moments that will make you go 'Awwww' and squee in joy. So, if you watched one, go watch the other!

Two moeblob iyashikei (no conflict) series with similar pacing and a similar form of comedy. Additionally, both shows play a little bit with non-realistic elements with androids in the Nichijou, and talking cats in Azumanga Daioh.

Main minor differences are that the humour in Nichijou is a lot more physical and over the top, while the humor in Azumanga Daioh is more timid and grounded. Furthermore there is a whole range of male characters (albeit minor / supporting only) in Nichijou, whereas Azumanga Daioh only sports a few.

TheOtakuPrincess TheOtakuPrincess says...

Both animes are lighthearted, plotless stories about a group of girls doing strange things during their everyday school lives. They both put a huge emhasis on a crazy, fantasy-like spin on every day activites, making them hilarious and interesting to watch. The characters are also unique and charming in thier own weird ways, interacting separately, in their own minds, or together.

Lucky Star

Lucky Star

In present day Japan, the life of a school girl is never dull. The easily-bored Konata never finds time to study because of her otaku habits, which frustrates hard-working Kagami to no end. On the other hand, laid-back Tsukasa always manages to go with the flow, while Miyuki is concerned with keeping her status as resident know-it-all. Join these four girls as they muse and meander their way through everyday events such as eating chocolate cones, doing homework, gaming, and trips to the beach galore.

Both Nichijou and Lucky Star are comedy anime about school girls. Lucky Star may be a bit more moe, but Nichijou tends to be a bit... weirder, and crazier than Lucky star. If you liked one, you'll probably like the other.

Both titles focus on moe girls in a slice of life school setting without inducing sleep. Both anime seem ordinary but as you watch it it gets more interesting than you may think. The kind of comedy used is not too different, either.

Nichijou and Lucky Star  has a lot of things common to each other. Some character wants to be a mangaka in both of the anime. One not doing homeworks and likes. And both are cute.

First except for the fact that both animes are based on everyday life of school girls and made by Kyoto Animation everything else is different from the graphics style and their life style and I would never tell that Nichijou has taken incentive from Lucky Star, There ain't anything about okatu Cult or Moe in Nichijou, With compared to Lucky Star I think Nichjou is in a whole new level but they both are "must watch" for comedy genre fans xD

The mundane turns comedic. The comedic effect is heightened by the mundane. Like Seinfeld, these are "shows about nothing", and timeless. I give Nichijou the edge in art style, comedy, and plot, but both are good. More people will probably know of and have watched Lucky Star.

There is a reason High School Boys is nicknamed "Nichibros". If you like comedies with extreme reactions particularly over mundane life you'd love both shows.

These two are definitely almost identical in presentation and style of humor. Slapstick comedy at it's finest.

Ailly Ailly says...

You could say that Nichijou is the female version of Daily Lives of High School Boys (or the other way around, whichever you prefer). They're both comedy shows that rely heavily on slapsick and visual humour. While Nichijou is more fantastical in its stories, DKNN loves to crazy up the mundane. Each episode is divided in short segments which make them easy to watch. They also feature some pretty sweet friendships between the main characters. And even the side characters are pretty funny and memorable. Both are great shows if you like some light SOL comedies.

Azukano Azukano says...

Nichijou and Daily Lives of High School Boys are what you can call a gender switch. However, High School Boys is a less crazy than Nichijou. Either way, they follow the lives of three characters and their school life. Random skits and scenes are portrayed in both shows as well. If you liked one, you are guaranteed to like the other.

YuiYui YuiYui says...

To start of both really have no storyline, they are all over the place. But this randomness is what makes these two similar. In both the art style is very simply and they use a similar structure in how they present each scene. In the end Daily Lives of High School Boys is just like a male version of Nichijou, and vise versa. Another think is that they are based around high school students even though in one the main characters are boys and the other is based around a  group of girls, these anime are quite similar and I say if you enjoyed one ypu should enjoy the other.

jpwasd jpwasd says...

Ok they are basically the same exact show except with opposite genders for the MC. If you've seen one but haven't seen the other i really don't know what you are waiting for.

Both of these shows are filled with randomness and they jump from story to story within the show making small conections to the random events as they go along. while nichijou blurs the line between imagination and reality daily lives has the charaters imagining things and only half of the time do you get to see what they see.

if you like random "what the heck?" moments then both of these shows are great!

Both Daily Lives of High School Boys and Nichijou deal with the lives of highschool students with no real storyline or plot. They are also both riduculous in a funny way.

Right off the bat I felt that these 2 shows are incredibly similar.  The randomness of the 2 shows is quite similar and the pacing feels quite similar between the shows.  They also share quite a few character types (E.G. a child genius) that make the similaries even more noticable.

Besides some of the characters having some outstanding resemblences, the very random, very over the top humor both provide are both pretty damn enjoyable. Though Paniponi dash may go to astronomical levels, Nichijou is down to Earth. Take your pick and enjoy!

Want some over-the-top wackiness with large amounts of references? Nichijou's humor style and pacing is much like Pani Poni Dash's. Pani Poni Dash is more episodic where Nichijou is sliced into smaller bits. Both are good for a laugh or two and have great artwork.

Minami-ke

Meet the Minami sisters, three girls living on their own and doing their best to make it through life's little snags and adventures. Kana, the middle sister, has far more energy than common sense; Chiaki, the youngest, is more reserved, but her sharp tongue and devious mind often cause trouble for others; and Haruka, the eldest, acts like a mother to the other two, is beautiful and kind, but has a fearsome stern streak. Together, no obstacle can stand in their way, be it school, romance, or even cooking.

Nichijou focuses on everyday life and this isn't far from what Minami-ke is about. Minami-ke though has more plot and gives more depth to each character than Nichijou can sometimes do. Minami-ke's also pretty random at times and this mirors pretty much what Nichijou is, random. Both are definitely funny and you should be able to laugh atleast once each episode. They are episodic and have several stories poured into one episode but that doesn't get boring, not even once; note though that Minami-ke sometimes do have episodes that flow. So if you're looking for non-sensical fun, Nichijou and Minami-ke are must-watches. Also if you check out Minami-ke, be sure to also check its sequels and ovas.

Kyou no 5 no 2 TV

Kyou no 5 no 2 TV

Ryouta is a typical elementary school boy in class 5-2. He likes hanging out with his friends, he plays guitar on his broom instead of cleaning the classroom and he’s more interested in whose Superball bounces the highest than seeing a girl’s panties or sneaking a peek at a dirty magazine. However Ryouta also has the unfortunate luck of often being caught in the most seemingly-perverted situations at the worst possible times. Still, amidst becoming the guru of the turn-on of a collarbone, Ryouta continues to live a normal day-to-day life; that is, as normal a life as a tormented pseudo-perverted schoolboy can!

While Nichijou's half focuses on a cast of characters in highschool and while Kyou no Go no Ni has a full cast of elementary kids, the two aren't different besides that and other minor things. In similarity, both are episodic and each episode is composed of mini episodial stories. Both are comedy titles, but for me, Nichijou seems to be more geared to the comedy genre, but none the less Kyou no Go no Ni still has its own merits and its own memorable moments. If you choose to watch Kyou no Go no Ni, be sure to check out its many OVAs.

These are both absurdist comdies in a school setting where simple situation is taken to it's comedic extreme. Both shows don't have a particular plot, but instead each episode introduces new random comedic skits as the characters gets themselves into all kinds of surreal and bizarre situations.

Nichijou has full episodes so each episode is made up of multiple skits. Tonari no Seki is a short seven minutes per episode which lets it take one concept and then make it as over the top and silly as possible. Tonari is also a bit more grounded as large parts of the comedy happen in the minds of the characters, whereas in Nichijou literally anything can happen, but they both use the radom comedic style and absurd very well.

If you like random comedy and seeing mundane situations quickly unravel in the most bizarre ways then check out these comedies.

Tonari no Seki-Kun has 6min episodes, while Nichijou has 30min episodes with several segments. Similar Daramtic situation. But Tonari no Seki-Kun is a little less hyper compared to Nichijou.
