Nichijou: My Ordinary Life - Reviews

In a word: Random.

If I had to add another word, it would be: Hilarious!

Forgoing my usual review style, because this anime defies normal. It's not really a story, per se, as it is a series of shorts that are, for lack of a better word, random. Most are fairly hilarious(sometimes epically so!), or at least funny, although a few just seem to make you go "...what was the point of that?" I'll admit, sometimes the jokes would probably have worked better with a native Japanese speaker, as they relied on puns or at least culture significance, but there was still much in each episde that had me laughing hard.

Primarily, it follows three school girls, and their zany antics. But there is such an array of other characters, that it is hard, if not impossible, to adequately describe them or their role in the series. Everyone has a quirk, but it's watching those quirks play off each other, that provides most of the hilarity. Even the girls seem aware of their quirks, and delve into them with gusto.

So, gonna end this short review by saying this is a must watch, if you want something to laugh at. Not only are the characters and situations hilarious and/or wierd, but there is an endearing quality to them (especially Nano and the Professor), that really makes you feel for them.

Knew/heard about this anime for a while now, but wasn't until Madman Entertainment (the main anime licencer/dvd production in Australia) released a few teaser videos for it, the main one being the principal fighting a deer :P haha

Anyway finally decided to watch it after finding a copy of it at the local library, it pretty much lives up to expectations as a funny over the top comedy/slice of life show, though a bit too random at some times, a show to watch best when your'e relaxing or doing something else, provided enough of your attention is there to read the subs, its surprisingly enjoyable :)

Story - 2/10

Up to episode 10 so far, but so far not much of a story...just a huge series of mini funny/random situations, some link up, some don't, some have a reccuring theme, etc

Animation - 9/10

I actully like the animation, simple generally, but then super high detail in some parts, again the deer fight is the one that sticks out in my head :P

Sound - 7/10

Pretty catchy but a bit repetitive, still not bad :P

Charachters - 7/10

Some are great, some are good, and some are awful...i still never see what the appeal is of a silent emotionless girl in glasses, yet they show up in so many animes, another charachter i dislike even more / hate would be the main charachter's mother...cause even when she's being super annoying (the main charachter) and it's supposed to be shown in a comedic light, violence to kids is Never okay.

Other than that, charachters are great...i just don't know any of their names, (not sure if its just me not concentrating enough, or the anime not introducing....)

anyway the main charachter/brown hair is the massive goof ball, blue hair pretty funny, theres some other girl who shoots this rich guy with guns all the time, the professor and her robot always doing something random, and the principal!!!! (who i wish we get to see more of...lol)

Overall - 7/10

Overall this isn't going for any anime of the year awards, nor is is aimed towards the more adult anime viewers, but it is a pretty enjoyable anime to watch in your spare time and get lots of laughs from :P

How was it?

Just wonderful.

Plot (∅): You see, it is that kind of anime where one must not seek story. It's not like there wasn't one. But seeking it is idiocy.

Characters (8/10): Each and every character has an impact and they show it flashily. I won't say it had the best set of characters. But as a whole it was very good.

Art and Animation (10/10): Modern Action Shounen Anime's will be at shame when they will see that a Slice of Life Comedy anime has 100x times better animation than them. Like seriously, Its excellent. Just excellent.

Music (9/10): The Music is very soothing. And the SFX's were on spot. It's not like other boom-bam-bum anime so don't expect GIGA LEVEL BGM's lol.

Enjoyment (10/10): This anime made me laugh the most over the course of last 6 months. Yes, I've been watching it for like 6 months. The fact is it doesn't give you that feel that "OMG, I need to watch the next episode now" but rather makes you think, "Just what the hell did I just watch... and just why it was so relatable." Some might think it's boring at points. And yes. It is. But give it a chance. If it doesn't make you laugh at least once, I'll change my name to whatever you say.

Strong Points: The comedy, the animation.

Weak Points: Boring at points, the inability of dragging viewers to it.
