Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula

Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula

At the dawn of the twenty-first century, a sudden climate change known as the Equatorial Winter devastated humanity. The survivors saw the new age as an opportunity to create a unified world order. Driven by this vision, the United Nations officially declared a war to determine which country would become the first world government, a war they named the Wisest World War. This conflict would be carried out not between soldiers but between individual mecha known as Gigantics. In such a restless world lives Shingo Suwa; he has just beaten hundreds of candidates to the position of pilot for Japan’s mecha – the Susanoo. But there is far more to the Gigantics than meets the eye. Is Suwa truly prepared for what it takes to fend off all the other champions and bring victory to Japan?

Gin Gin says...

Both Neon Genesis Evangelion and Gigantic Formula have a very similar plot: Greek gods/angels fight against other Greek gods/angels to unite mankind, and there are mecha with a mythological background. Both share almost one to one copies of single scenes: an unpiloted robot stretching out its hand to save the protagonist, or after a hard battle during which the female lead takes a beating the protagonist rushes to her pilot seat to check if she is alright. The Gigantic Formula series, especially the first episode, can be seen as an homage to Evangelion.

neurodium neurodium says...

Both of those animes have for main character a teenager boy, who have to choose between fighting to protect people or to let it go and do nothing. Both mechas are connected with their pilot, they have a conscience too, pilot and mecha make one, which is likely the same in both animes. There is differences in characters between those to series, that is what make Evangelion a bit gloomy and Gigantic like an optimistic atomsfear. Enjoy both :)

MalteseFalcon MalteseFalcon says...

It is hard not to draw comparisons between Gigantic Formula and Neon Genesis Evangelion. However, many of the comparisons I can make contain spoilers. I can say that both are series that have children fighting in giant robots to save the world, where said robots have their own secrets that are slowly revealed.

Neon Genesis Evangelion gets more existensial, serious and mind bending than Gigantic Formula. So if you are looking for something a bit weirder and thinky, try NGE. If you want something more simple, try Gigantic Formula.

Now, Shuu must decide whether to join the efforts of the well-funded radical terrorist group "Funeral Parlor" and fight against the GHQ, or shrug off his newfound power and resume his normal life - assuming that either the GHQ or Funeral Parlor's charismatic leader, Gai, will let him.

The main reason behind this recommendation is that the characters between the two series seem very similar.  In both, there is a teenage boy who is forced by circumstances to fight for something he does not really believe in. Both of these characters suffer from a severe lack of self-confidence. They also have an attraction to the mysterious heroine that they interact with. Rei from Evangelion and Inori from Guilty Crown both seem to have trouble in expressing emotions, have a past that is shrouded in mystery, and an unclear relationship with the leader of the different organizations; Rei with Gendo and Inori with Gai.

JAhU JAhU says...

Guilty Crown is extremely post-NGE anime, so it's not unexpected that it takes bucketfuls of themes from NGE. Mentioning them all is pointless, so I'll keep it to the one that stands the most. Although those characters have different personalities in those two shows, one can't help but notice that the Shuu-Inori-Gai relationship\character mechanics in Guilty Crown resemble Shinji-Rei-Gendou relationship\character mechanics from NGE. I can't say that you'll definitely like one if you liked the other (you know both of those anime are infamous for a reason), but doe to the massive amounts of borrowed content it's still worth recommending one to the fans of the other.

Tsunabi Tsunabi says...

I think you can appreciate both ways Neon Genesis Evangelion & Guilty Crown.

Both anime plot is about a Wolrd after an Apocalypse, the people survived are in a "bad situation" and there are "secret organization" that take the control. In both anime we have some "Mecha" used by the organization.

Btw: i really love the Opening of Evangelion and i really love the songs of Inori, two of the gratest soundtracks i've ever hear!!!

Quick mecha action... great graphics... revelation of new and more powerful vehicles... similar to evangelion in many ways the humor is a bit foreign to Eva but i think you will enjoy it

Vandread and NGE probe into the human soul. If you want a series that can make you think, both are able to suffice. These two go hand in hand as the one the evil side of man, and the other the good side.

Another series that forces the viewer to question humanity. Its a great series that takes some serious human issues and deals with them in a serious way. It pushes the boundrys of anime stories to a new level.

stingreis stingreis says...

Post apocalyptic anime's where the main character a young boy strives to save the world... now Evangelion is more sci-fi, but there are a lot of adult themes in both anime's that really get you thinking... some of them are even perverse and heartbreaking...

Nonetheless, there are numerous similarities that just cant be overlooked... I enjoyed this, and thought they were similar enough that if you enjoyed one, you'd definitely enjoy the other as well.

On the surface, these two series appear to have nothing to do with each other apart from being from the same studio, Gainax. NGE is about giant robot combat and KareKano is about high school life. However, after watching both series, it becomes evident that they are both about human relationships and individuals dealing with their own psychological problems. They are both also a little disturbing, but should appeal to the same group of people who enjoyed the psychological and coming-of-age elements in both shows.

Evangelion and Kare Kano don't really resemble each other, but if you enjoyed the psychoanalysis aspect of Evangelion, chances are you'll enjoy Kare Kano too.

Evangelion and MKR OVA feature rather unconventional mecha as young men and women work and fight to defend what they believe in. The stories are gripping and the character designs are really well done.

Well, they are two series with world ending giant robot battles. The comparison draws itself.

These two surprised me in the same pleasant way (as I while watching NGE was still so n00b that i didn't know what it was about...) The both seem to be quite harmless, done in quite classical way, until: hail the weirdness! The pleasant mysteriousness, originality...and above all, the sudden need for viewer to use his/her brains.

Both focus on feelings of kids that face(and use) great power, suffering from it. Both series great psychically, also have some strong, violent moments.

Both are mecha seires with an underlying storyline. BT have alot more fanservice and humor than what NGE have, but feels a bit like a cross between NGE and Bubblegum Chrisis 2040. BT have a fair ammount of action entertainment value but don't come close to the series it's simmilar to.

XMrNiceguyX XMrNiceguyX says...

I felt like the characters of these two series were quite identical. Managed to find a lot of similar characteristics. Besides the characters, there was quite some mecha action too. The main difference between the two series is the blatant use of fanservice in Bakuretsu Tenshi and the ammount of humor (Bakuretsu Tenshi had some more humor than Neon Genesis Evangelion)

Reasons for recommending? Well... Lets see. The stories themselves aren't really similar, but the general feel of the series is somewhat similar. That, and there's semi-organic robots. Mai HiME does have a much lighter feel than MGE does, and there are many comical moments. However, times come in the anime that grab you by your nuts (or hair, or whatever else doesn't like grabbing for those who aren't male), and make you grow roots into your chair. ... That really didn't make much sense... Lets say that episode 15 really made me want to watch Eva again.

Uriel1988 Uriel1988 says...

Both series deal with teenagers who have to save the world from destruction by strange creatures, all while strange organizations pull strings from the shadows.

Neither series really goes into much detail regarding the creatures that have to be fought and the powers behind the scenes. The focus in both series is more on the character-interaction and the internal struggles of the protagonists. If you liked one, the other has a good chance of appealing to you as well.

Both Robotech and Neon Genesis center around the fight in giant mecha vs invaders. In Robotech's case from outer space, in Neon Genesis' case it is a bit more complicated.

Robotech is more straightforward action, while Neon Genesis tries to delve a bit deeper into the reasons for fighting and humanity.
