The Shimabara sisters are a study in contrasts. Practical Minami, devious Yuuhi and kind-hearted Ushio are not short on disagreements... until fate changes their lives. A mysterious god emerges from the sea, one that will follow their every command! How will their lives change now that they control the most powerful force on the face of the Earth?
It's not your typical anime and I can see why people might get frustrated with this one. It's about faith, freedom and destiny... and one may experience some kind of cultural misunderstanding/misconception while watching the show (I know I did back in the 00's when I was a teen). Not everything is explained as clear as day, but overal it's a story about how mankind fights for its freedom.I see the 3 sisters as the incarnation of humanity : selfishness (Yuuhi), doubt (Ushio) and selflessness (Minami). As they each "pilot" the deity called Ranga, which you could see as a tool, they'll learn about themselves, their duty and the bond that unite them. There is a lot of talking, some action here and there... Music is really good and animation, well, it was the late 90's so be understanding. Not a classic but definitely an anime I cherish from my teenage years.
Neo Ranga is the worst-type of anime, in that it constantly has you waiting for a surprise twist that just never comes. So, after watching the first couple of episodes I thought I'd stumbled upon a horror-based Neon Genesis Evangelion clone and so immediately rushed out and purchased the entire series. Instead what I got was a really bland series about three young girls with some pretty interesting visuals. To its merit, the characters are not obnoxious... they are just bland and uninteresting. The action is sorely lacking, and the plot is extremely weak. Its so shallow that I was expecting a big reveal that just never came, it really was that shallow. Overall, I wouldn't recomend it. There isn't anything interesting here that you won't get out of looking at the designs on the DVD covers. Save yourself the time.
