I admit this may be a weird recommendation, but I do think these shows may share a similar audience. They are both josei with a sort of thoughtful and relaxing atmosphere. They also have heart-warming stories with great characters and a little humor thrown in. If you enjoyed the pace and style of one of these shows, give the other a try.

LeonaRose LeonaRose says...

While Honey and Clover features a heavier focus on romance and everyday life than Natsume Yuujinchou's supernatural aspects, both series possess a gentle, melancholic feeling and emotional plots.

Both animes about Psychic powers that allows the main character to see spirits of the dead, and reason with them. Natsume Yuujinchou and Shinrei Tantei Yakumo are so much alike, if you liked one of them I'm sure you'll like the other.

hotspot hotspot says...

Both are about a male protaganist who can see ghosts, and they both have one main character who goes on their adventures. (Of course they both have other allies, but they aren't always there, or it is not centered around them as much)

Slow-paced and introspective, Haibane Renmei and Natsume Yuujinchou have a mellow color palette and lead characters that are emotionally removed from the societies they live in. They would appeal to similar audiences.

Loneliness and friendship are the ruling themes of both anime. Each of the protaganists make friends and gradually learn to rely on other people.

AirCommodore AirCommodore says...

Both of these anime focus on traditional youkai, and have matching mostly-somber atmospheres (with occasional bursts of action or comedy), a pervading sense of loss/loneliness, and washed-out color palettes. I think they'll appeal to the same audience.

Karasune Karasune says...

If you enjoyed seeing the protagonist of one show interacting with youkai while trying to solve their problems (usually brought on by the youkai), you should check out the other. Natsume Yuujinchou includes many different adventures and stories while A Letter to Momo focuses on one, but fans of one should definitely take interest to the other. Both share a similar somber yet gentle atmosphere while the main characters also share the same experiences of loss and loneliness.

Both shows are centered around shinto themes. RDG is based off japanese shinto legends while Nastame is based off shinto mythology. This gives them a similiar vibe. RDG is suspenseful/mysterious with a bit of slice of life while Natsume is more light hearted.

Aside from having a similar mixture of supernatural elements, Natsume and RDG both are coming-of-age tales in which a shy main character learns to come out of their shell with help from their friends. Fans of one might enjoy the other.

Silver spoon strongly reminds me of the feel Natsume Yuujinchou has. They're both light-hearted and you feel happy for some reason after an episode. Although one anime deals with unrealistic things such as spirits, and the other with completely realistic things, they both give you that good feeling after the episode.

ibarbar ibarbar says...

Both shows are about kindness, overcoming a difficult past and finding a good purpose in life. While the themes are quite different, the feeling of warmth and attachement to the characters you get while watching both series is very similar. Also, both series are great to rewatch.

Noragami

Noragami

Yato, the supposed God of Calamity, is so far down on the Shinto totem pole that he doesn't even have any followers or a shrine to call his own and has to do odd jobs to make ends meet. Worst of all, his aloof and somewhat goofy personality has just cost him his newest partner and best holy weapon. When the down-on-his-luck Yato is saved by an unfortunate soul called Hiyori, he's forced to take on a brand new job - to turn her back into a human and fix her supernatural out-of-body experiences! Can Yato, a Regalia-less, miserly minor god, even attempt such a tall order? And is there more to him than his ridiculousness lets on?

These two anime are similar mainly due to their focus on gods and deities as well as how they encounter spirits that they have to come to terms with. As a bonus, they both have snarky, sarcastic lines that make them both comical at times, and a cat (or cat-like) sidekick too. While the characters and overall feel of the series are different, if you like one, you will definitely like the other.

Celine Celine says...

Quality supernatural anime. Even though Noragami is much more action based, and Natsume more Slice of Life, they both deal with supernatural entities, unassuming heroes, and absolutely phenomenal characterisation and world building. If you like the one, there is a good chance that you would like the other just because you have good taste in anime.

These supernatural anime both feature a young man with an otherworldly gift for seeing and communicating with youkai. They both wind up with a youkai "cat" as well.

Halex Halex says...

The story and structure of this show is really nothing new but is well executed. Is very similar to Natsume's Book of Friends, the type of show that makes emphasis on the understanding of different cultures, personalities, and ideologies; using the Yōkai (supernatural monsters, spirits, and demons in Japanese folklore) as a simile for what the show is trying to say.

Both shows are mostly episodic as well.

Both Bai Yao Pu and Natsume Yuujinchou follow MCs who interact with spirits and help them out. The major point being a book of spirits, called Fairies Album/Hundred Demon Spectrum and Yuujinchou/Book of Friends respectively.

On both anime the MC and their friends help fantasy beasts / monsters / youkai. They are episodic so each episode may or may not will be different from the previous one. Also, sometimes it s has a little of mystery on some episodes for a little extra sauce.
