I like this anime. Unforgettable well-written characters with a lot of action and powers. No one can deny the good plot from this anime, but it is not perfect.

Things I didn’t like:

  • Most of the initial character’s personalities. To me, people reveal who they are when they perceive themselves as “more powerful” than another. Most of the initial personalities of the characters were poor- though they grew out of their ways.
  • The ecchi parts were cheap and silly.
  • The convenient attributes and occurrences by both heroes and villains. You never know what’s coming because everyone has some new skill hiding.
  • The filler episodes. It takes a lot of time to get through the story. I understand why people tend to watch series like “Demon Slayer” instead- which is much shorter and still has good action.

Overall, if you are ready to dive into a long anime, this is the one I would suggest. 7/10. If you’re not ready for a long a$$ show, stick to a Trigun, Black Cat, or Demon slayer. Just don’t expect the plot or character development to be as comprehensive.

"Naruto," the long-running anime series that aired from 2002 to 2007, holds a special place in my heart as it was one of my first introductions to the world of anime. Let's break down the series into different categories:

Story (9/10): The story of Naruto is captivating, to say the least. It's a tale of ninjas, jutsu, and the pursuit of dreams. Naruto Uzumaki's journey from an outcast to a hero is filled with trials, tribulations, and a quest for recognition. The lore of the ninja world is well-crafted, with political intrigue, epic battles, and moral dilemmas that keep you hooked. While there are some filler episodes, the main story arcs are engaging and emotionally resonant.

Animation (8/10): The animation quality varies throughout the series. In some key battles and moments, the animation is spectacular, showcasing the characters' powerful techniques and intense combat. However, there are also episodes with noticeable dips in animation quality, especially during filler arcs. Nonetheless, considering the series' length, the animation remains impressive.

Sound (9/10): The music in Naruto is iconic and memorable. The opening and ending themes are not only catchy but also set the tone for each arc. The background score enhances the emotional impact of critical scenes, making them more powerful. The voice acting, especially the Japanese cast, brings the characters to life and conveys their emotions effectively.

Characters (9/10): "Naruto" boasts a rich and diverse cast of characters, each with their unique abilities, personalities, and motivations. Naruto himself undergoes significant character development, maturing from a brash and impulsive young ninja into a responsible and compassionate leader. The supporting characters, such as Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, and many others, also experience growth and contribute to the overall depth of the story.

Overall (8/10): "Naruto" is a classic shonen anime that has left an indelible mark on the anime community. Its compelling story, memorable characters, and iconic moments make it a must-watch for any anime enthusiast. While it does have its share of filler episodes that can slow down the pacing, the main arcs more than make up for it with their emotional depth and thrilling action.

Comparing the anime to the manga, "Naruto" stays relatively faithful to the source material. However, as is common with long-running anime adaptations, there are filler episodes and arcs that deviate from the manga's storyline. These fillers are hit or miss, with some providing enjoyable side stories while others may feel like a distraction from the main plot. If you want a more streamlined experience, reading the manga can be a great option, but the anime adaptation captures the essence of the story beautifully.

Naruto's special to me in a way. I sporadically watched Dragon Ball when I was little, but I didn't know they were anime at the time, and I wouldn't fully get into anime until I was 12 when my little brother and my first girlfriend at the time recommended Naruto to me. I enjoyed it for a good period of time, but I ended up dropping it in late 2019/early 2020. I think for the most part, the show is pretty good, pretty good music and sound effects, but the problem I had with it is that most of it is just filler. I'd be wondering how the hell is Naruto and the gang gonna locate Sasuke after he runs off to join Orochimaru, then randomly get episodes where Naruto gets fooled by two nimrods pretending to Might Guy and Rock Lee or he's traveling to other villages to do some shit I don't know/care about. And the thing is, I didn't even know this stuff was filler or that filler was a thing back then, so I thought I HAD to watch through this stuff until the plot picks back up again. And you, the person reading this, may think "But you're older now and have access to the internet, so why don't you pick the series up again and just skip the filler?"

Well, that brings me to my next point: Naruto lost its sense of identity. After I started watching Naruto, I noticed a lot more Naruto related stuff being recommended to me on YouTube and Instagram, and one thing I saw a lot of was AMVs of Naruto's last fight with Sasuke. I decided to look further into it just to learn that Naruto and Sasuke were using these new abilities they unlocked later on in Shippuden. Then I dug deeper and found a couple YouTube videos explaining these things in depth, and I was left wondering: what the fuck happened to the jutsus and hand signs? I was used to everyone using hand signs and their chakra to perform jutsus, but then everyone just started getting Dragon Ball-esque powers and were leveling entire forests and mountains. Naruto went from being a bullied and shunned underdog who had to learn to be a ninja to basically turning into a fucking god who could wipe out all the villages on Earth if he wanted. The whole show went from "Ninjas and jutsus" to "Aliens, Gods, and stupidly overpowered abilities that had absolutely no foreshadowing", and that just ruined it for me. So while I'm glad that Naruto helped me turn into the anime fan that I am now, I have no interest in going back to finish it.

Last thing I'll say is that Shikamaru is the best character and no one can tell me otherwise.

Edit 10/22/23: So after getting into an argument with my brother over this, I decided to do a bit of digging on the internet,  and according to a Reddit post I found, Kaguya and the Otsutsukis did have some foreshadowing, problem is, the only way you'd be able to catch on to it is if you have a decent understanding of certain Japanese folktales. Still doesn't change the fact that the powe scaling in this show sucked.
