What the hell is up with romantic comedies and their need to have an overly long title? I’m not going to lie though, the title is totally the reason I picked this one up. So it does serve a purpose, I guess. My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy, or NouCome for short, is as completely ridiculous and nonsensical as its title suggests. As someone who despises panty shots, bouncing boobies and harem plots with the fiery passion of  a thousand suns, I have to say that… This anime isn’t all that bad. Yeah, colour me surprised as well.

Story

Amakusa Kanade is your average bishie who would be swimming in pussy if this were any other romantic comedy. But he has this tiny, little problem called ‘Absolute Choice’. At totally random moments he’s presented with two choices, both as ridiculous and embarrassing as possible, and he must choose one of them. So far, so good. The premise is very interesting and sets itself up for a lot of possible gags. And the creators do get this part right. The jokes might be pretty low-brow at times, but that’s something to be expected when you go into a show like this. There are tons of references to other shows and lampshade hanging of frequent tropes of the genre. So the comedy is definitely alright. But unfortunately NouCome also has romance in it. And that part was totally generic and uninteresting. I personally didn’t care about Amakusa’s relationships with the female characters at all. He’s a pretty nice guy and all, and I get the girls falling for him, but I just couldn’t give a damn about it. The romance plot starts to take over somewhere around episode 7 and the comedy and absurdity take a backseat.

Animation

There’s nothing much to be said about it, other than that it is quite solid, with smooth movements and a very bright colour palette. There are some shifts in art style to support whatever joke is going on at the moment. The animators tend to add a lot of detail to the lips and hands, which I found kind of distracting during close-ups. Also, blushy shoulders for some reason. And then you have this little gem:

No worries, just getting a text from God *wink wink* (no, really, that's what's happening)

Easily one of the best visual gags of NouCome; it never gets old for me. But then again, I’m pretty easily amused.

Sound

This is definitely the strong point of the show. The voice acting for it was AMAZING. Toshiyuki TOYONAGA is absolutely marvellous as the main character. He makes the dialogue work. And then you have that awesome narrator voice shouting ‘CHOOSE!’ at the most inappropriate times. For the girls they used the high pitched, squeaky voices you’re probably used to for this genre. Special mention for Furano though. She had this nice, low voice that I really enjoyed and that you don’t hear often for a moe character.

OP and ED were average and not really anything I’d listen to on its own, but they fit the mood of the show. The OP animation also offered this cute little scene:

All hail gravity defying skirts!

Characters

Amakusa Kanade is the name of our MC-kun and he’s the Universe’s personal butt monkey. Sheesh, the crap this guy has to endure… The dude’s pretty nice and funny as well. Of course, as the main character of a romance anime, he can be quite dense at times, but overall I felt he was actually somewhat genre savvy. He was one of the main reasons I kept watching the show, as all the jokes are on his expense.

And this wouldn’t be a romance if there weren’t any romantic interests and this show even offers us three (main ones)! Meet Furano, the tsundere; Chocolat (yes, this is actually her name), the glutton and Yuouji, the genki girl.

CAN YOU FEEL THE MOE?!

Other than that, there are also the imouto character, Boob-chan, the class president and the clumsy, but adorably cute girl. Sounds quite generic, right? They are a bit, but there’s always a nice little twist to their characters. Something that makes them not quite cookie-cutter. So, while they’re not ground-breaking and innovative, they also aren’t boring and dull.

Overall

NouCome is an entertaining comedy, tongue-in-cheek parody of the romcom genre at its best and a fanservice loaded, generic harem at its worst. If you can struggle through all the boob and panty shots, you’ll find yourself a really witty set-up and lots of brilliant gags. Of course, the humour is not for everyone, but I’d suggest watching the first 2 episodes to get a taste of what the show is like. If it hasn’t captured you by then, it’s probably not for you. In the end, NouCome is a pretty fine show that offers a lot of laughs, boobs, moe-ness and a surprisingly interesting view on making choices and how it affects our lives.

Now, CHOOSE!

  1. Go watch NouCome
  2. Don’t watch NouCome
  3. Do a one-handed handstand, wearing spanks and squealing like a pig being slaughtered while liking this review

Wait, what?

*This is spoiler-free*

Noucome has amazed me with their concept of their story. Basically the main protagonist Kanade has a abnormal mental condition which he called it 'Absolute choice ' . Basically, suddenly out of nowhere two foolish choices appear. He has to do any of them or his head will start hurting. And whatever he chooses will become true. About the story , it feels like they were trying to take it slow but suddenly forced it at the end. It could be because it has only 10 episodes. The animation was great especially the background and the floating choices. About the sound, just wow they did a really good job. Especially when the choices appear , the OP and the ED too. Each characters had their own unique personalities but , i kinda felt like some characters were from other anime like Kanade : Shido from Date a live , Furano : Koneko from high school DxD. Other than that this is a great anime but the only thing that bothered me was how short the anime was i.e only 10 episodes. With this really good concept they could have done at least 18 episodes or release extra chibi episodes. I really enjoyed it and waiting for season two :D

don`t expect a heavy laid out storyline because there isnt one...

story:
Kanade Amakusa, a regular high school student expect for one thing...... the ultimate choices curse. The first thing you should know is that this anime serie was not made to have an intense storyline with extreme drama etc.... it was made for those who enjoy the lighter series where everything that normally would be serious is taken as a joke. What makes ore no nounai so successful is how well they pull it off. Think about it he has a terrible curse on him that will obviously cause him a lot of misery however because of that very same curse he gets more and more involved with the characters around him making obvious room for a harem. You probably think so typical but his harem is necessary in the storyline as it reveals Kanade`s kind nature and leads us along the little bit of seriousness that is present. In other words its keeps the serie moving without making itself the story.

Art :
the overall Art in noucome is amazing as to be expected from the new series coming out recently. The detail for the character and their surroundings are awsome and i think plenty of effort has been put into them. The colours are beautifully bright not to mention i love the artwork for the eyes and chocolates super cute outfit!!! (ahem) i think plenty of work was put into to it and it is quite wonderful.

Sound:
I really like the opening song for noucome i think it is open and playful and perfect for the serie it is representing and the right music was used to create the right moods.

character:
What i really like about noucome is that altough on the outside they all seemed like the typical dere`s they all had a twist that most characters dont have not to mention their constant need to go WAY over the top compared to your regular dere`s wich obviously was done purposely.

Enjoyment:
If you consider that i spend alot of the serie with tears in my eyes from laughter i cant deny anything. I really enjoyed the serie it was a nice break from my usual serious storyline anime series. The overall humour was great and it was something different to me i loved it.

the other numbers dont rlly matter this anime is just a bunch of silly shit jiggly tits and bad puns and i absolutely love it.

story: basically this guy has been hit with a curse from god himself that forces him to choose between two absolutely abhorrent choices at random times making his life a literal hell. Then a chick falls out of the sky and tells him he has to complete these missions to free himself of this curse.

anime is basically a parody of the genre its nothing but stupid puns and titties and i love it. its never too serious its never aggravating or corny its just a bunch of stupid jokes.

animation: theres one chick with absolutely gargantuan tits and the jiggle animation goes on for seconds after she stops moving its so fucking stupid but its so funny

sound: voice acting is nice

characters: all the female characters are funny as shit and even the unnamed gag characters are hilarious its just so consistently funny and aware that the story makes no sense. not once is the class taught anything they just sit around doing a whole lotta nothin its so dumb but it never gets old. Furanos the best girl for sure
