Great anime that is unique in its own way. I really enjoyed how artistic the animation throughout the series was, season 2 the quality was much better however the stories were not as rich as seasons 1 imo.

I wished they series would've explored how Ginko obtained his knowledge to be considered a Mushi master and they could've also added more reoccurring characters and again explain more of Ginko's past.

Im bummed about the series being only 2 seasons, I feel that 3 seasons would have done it more Justice but overall a great anime.

Well this certainly was a different experience.

Mushishi is a very episodic anime with each episode depicting a case or a problem or something related to the creatures known as Mushi, which are special creatures present everywhere but only a selected few can see them. And a Mushi master, our protagonist, goes in and tries to solve the problems.

I really don't like episodic things but Mushishi somehow managed to make each 20 mins an interesting and beautiful tale, some better than other obviously. That is one hell of a task considering aside from our hero, there really are no recurring characters.

There is a very unique beauty in this anime, regarding nature/life etc, which is more complemented by beautiful art and great soundtrack.

If only it wasn't this much episodic, I most probably would have loved it way more. Still, really enjoyed it.

Story: It's difficult to describe what mushi (what this series revolves around) is but the series itself isn't diffcult to understand. It does have deep and profound ideas but it's simple. Although the series is episodic and slow-paced, it doesn't stop being interesting. The episode doesn't get boring which is surprising. However, I wouldn't call this series entertaining. It will probably capture your interest and it rightfully should. It also makes you think deeply but I don't have much of a desire to rewatch the series. If you are in the mood for something that is more than pure fluff and entertainment, this is definitely the series for you. I would recommend this to most people actually because for the orginality and it's high quality. Every episode is intricate with a different idea but still connected to idea of nature and mushi. Also, there are some laughs.

Animation: Beautiful and simple. The animation for the characters and nature is simplistic but elegant. It's nice and graceful and resembles slice of life. However, the mushi are bright and abnormal which sets a great contrast. Ginko has a distinct style but a majority of the characters look simplistic and are forgetable. However, that seems to be the intention so it isn't a bad thing at all. Therefore, I don't have much negative to say.

Sound: Zen like and peaceful. The soundtrack is beautiful and fits it's animation counterpart to a tee. The opening and ending fit perfectly as well. The seiyuus did a great job as well. Although the soundtrack was fitting and I enjoyed listening to it throughout the series, it's not a personal favorite of mine. However, it doesn't not it from being a great soundtrack.

Characters: The story is plot driven instead of character driven. It is episodic so you just don't have time to heavily focus on the characters expect for a few reoccurring characters. However, you do seem to become enthralled in their lives.

Overall: I recommend watching this regardless of what type of series you like. It's unlike anything else out there and it truly is classic. It'll definitely broaden your scope.

Beautiful series, with breathtaking backdrops and a haunting soundtrack. A very mellow anime that follows the travels of Ginko, a "mushishi" who can perceive "mushi," semi-sentient organisms that cause supernatural happenings in people's lives.
