Even though Monster is way deeper and thousand times better, both anime have a few similarities. Realistic animation style, dark atmosphere, lots of action, crazy killer and a person who wants to protect people.

It might not look like it from the start, but both anime touch pretty deep and dark side of society that doesn't really get much attention in mainstream media. Big crimes, corruption, conspiracies , higher authorities, few people controling the society, sexual abuse etc.

Rokuro Okajima is a small-time salaryman who is carrying documents for his company, when the ship he's traveling on is attacked by pirates. same like monster where there is a reason why some people become bad and goes in a wrong way in life. If they were given little bit love earlier may be they become a good person but the situation make them what they are.
