Momokuri

Yuki Kurihara has finally been granted her wish of dating her crush Momo. At first glance, she just looks like a normal but very cute girl. However, she is in fact a maniac over Momo, taking notes of his activities and never missing the chance to see him in a cute moment. Momo, on the other hand, is inexperienced in love, and just wants to make Yuki happy.

Satelight’s 2016 high school romcom contributes such little to the genre it leaves the audience wondering what on earth its point is. This highly generic and derivative story features two highly unoriginal protagonists: a shy/cute boy and a shy/cute/weird girl. She is Yuki Kurihara and she has developed a crush on a boy one year below her in High School. After stalking the object of her affections (Shinya "Momo" Momotsuki) for a while she asks him out and he says yes. The resulting couple are so lame and dense they actually suck in light. They work their way through the set list of high school romances: summer festivals, culture festivals, Christmas, barbecues, onsens, etc, etc. On the way he seems mostly oblivious to the fact his girlfriend is obsessing over him. Instead, he worries that she doesn’t get jealous when other girls are affectionate towards him. It leads him to question whether she really likes him or not despite the obvious fact she is scarily and obviously obsessed with him. How can two people be so stupidly stupid? Is this the shows attraction? Who knows but THAT is the whole plot right there. Nothing. Else. Happens. The end. Yes there are various side-characters in the supporting cast with vague indications that they might have the own loves and concerns. Yet these are pressed into the far, far background and rarely get much more than walk-ons to the main event in the anime. Tune in to the original Manga by Kurose to find out the details to the back-plotting. No doubt the story was far more involved as originally written. The anime adaptation concentrates on the main couple but fails to bring out any really interesting plot points. It is so flat it would be invisible from the sides. You would have to be seriously bored to watch this.
