Both anime are about test pilots that end up getting into more than they bargained for. There's some romance involved and haunting pasts. The main differance between the 2 is that Macross Plus focuses a lot on music where the other more on taking out the enemy Both are sure to please and you do not have to have seen the other series in their franchises in order to watch them.

One shouldn't really go in expecting much with the characters and plots in these two, especially when compared to other installments in both the Gundam/Macross series. But where these two OVA's excel at, they really shine - the production values, the nostalgic and incredible music, amazingly top notch animation and art for their time, and the insane action make them both worth seeing for the technical aspects alone. Both are sci-fi, mecha, and all that sort of thing, chances are if you like some of Macross or Gundam, you'll like both in many ways too.

Both of these shows deal with stories where it's hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys. No one is really evil in these shows, but noone is a saint either.

And they both have amazing action scenes!

If you have started the new season with Gundam Reconguista in G, and you haven't seen some of the older Tomino directed shows, then these short OVA's are a great place to start.

0073: Stardust Memory, is in my opinion, one of the best storylines in all of the UC stories, it has some of the best villains and good guys in all of Gundam, mainly because the lines between what is "good" and "bad" are blurred quite early on.

It's too early to tell how Reconguista will pan out, but it will be a longer series than 0073: Stardust memory, though I believe that fans new to the Gundam series would enjoy the previous shows that take place within the same timeline, and likewise, older fans would enjoy the new show.
