On the night of a crimson full moon, high school girl Ayazuki Mei enters into a box. When she awakens, she's in Tokyo during the Meiji Period! The lost and confused Mei is taken to the Rokumeikan, a lavish ballroom full of powerful high officials. In this world, during the "Misty Hour" between sundown and sunup, "mononoke" appear. Those who can see them are called "Tamayori," and Mei herself possesses this power. As she navigates an unfamiliar life, romance begins to bloom between Mei and these men -- and the power of the tamayori will only strengthen their bonds.
So this anime has been on my "want to watch" list for a while and I was hoping I would like it. It's a reverse harem and romance anime, two of my absolute favorite types. However, I didn't expect to like it this much. I ended up a sobbing mess at the end and basically had a panic attack. As a side note, I just couldn't stop watching and finished this in one day. I absolutely loved the animation of this, V1 Studio really does a wonderful job of animating. I'm not sure if I'm good at rating animes since I just end up loving it no matter what, but I'll try my best. Story The story took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I was hooked from the beginning, and throughout the story, it kept me interested. I felt frustrated, happy, sad, and angry all during these 12 episodes. I can't find anything wrong regarding the plot, really. I didn't find anything overly unreasonable or crazy. I loved the suspense at the end where we're waiting in anticipation what Mei will decide to do. I was personally saddened by the ending, but I feel like it's the best ending we can get. The ending doesn't leave us with a completely closed book or concrete ending but instead leaves it open as if more is to come. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the story. Animation Honestly, there's nothing wrong about the animation. Literally. Nothing. I loved the cute chibi moments, they were adorable. The characters and scenery were animated beautifully. V1 Studios really is amazing. Sound The voices excited me so much. Whenever a new character was introduced, I would be overwhelmed with happiness because they all had such "ikemen" voices. All of the characters had such fitting seiyuus, and I wasn't disappointed with a single one. The music was wonderful. The jazzy-type opening was one of the factors that hooked me to this during the beginning. It's definitely going on my playlist after this. Characters I have but one word to explain my reactions to all the characters: fangirl. I squealed so loudly during this anime, my voice probably went up five octaves whenever a new character was introduced. I can't really pick a favorite, they're all wonderful characters it's Shunsou shhhh. I fell in love with the character designs of all of them. The voices match their personality and appearance wonderfully. One thing I will say. After finishing the anime, I wish we saw more about Charlie. He's such a mysterious character and I really would like to learn more about him. In fact, I would like to see more about the past of the main characters. Other than that, the characters didn't fail to please me.
NO SPOILERS - This anime should be an example for many other animes with a similar theme. The plot is well and understandably organized, the characters are sensitive, beautiful and charming. The music perfectly improved the impression of the story and excellent graphics became common. Once I started the first episode, I couldn't look away from the screen. The episodes went by so fast, and I watched the whole anime in a few hours. EDIT: This anime is my favorite, so of course don't take my rating too seriously. I don't think "Meiji Tokyo Renka" is a story with an original plot, and I also know that the story is not perfect in many ways, the main characters as well. But the fact that you're entertained by this, I think that's something I can be sure about. I would recommend this anime to anyone who likes a quiet and cute anime full of romance and tears.
