Meganebu! and Daily Lives of High School Boys are two comedies centered around a not-so-bright group of immature boys. You'll find a plethora of jokes, ideas gone wrong, and an overall "anything goes" silly atmosphere in both series. The only difference is that the boys in Meganebu! are obsessed with glasses, but if comedy is want you want, I think fans of either series won't mind too much.

ZetsubouKaiji ZetsubouKaiji says...

These are both fast paced comedies centered around a group of high school guys. There is no real plot to either anime, instead the episodes are separated into a series of comedic scenes or sketches ususally connected by some lose theme. Both shows can be pretty random with their comedy. The comedy in both can be kind of hit or miss but they're both more hit than miss, and the jokes that do land are quite funny.

The art styles are very differerent. Daily Lives has a more traditional look whereas Meganebu is very stylized and even though done by studio Deen, it's style is ripped straight from the SHAFT animation style. However, despite the different looks these are both soild random comedies.

Brad Brad says...

Both are ultra fast paced comedy shows that revolve around a group of high school boys. The focus in each is squarely on quick-fire comedy with little connection between episodes, instead choosing to run with a single theme each episode before moving on to a new one in the next.

So if you're looking for some quick-fire, random comedy then you could do worse than either of these. Daily Lives of Highschool Boys is especially good.

Both series feature an all-male cast of high school students who are constantly getting into hilarious situations. The comedy is fast-paced and straight-up ridiculous at times. There's no real plot in either series, rather each episode is filled with a loosely-connected variety of comedic scenes and hilarious antics.

These are both slice of life comedies about a group of boys. Although the main reason for the rec is the boys themselves. They're all bishounen boys for the ladies to drool over. In Meganebu all the guys wear glasses and in Free! the boys are often stripped down to their swim trunks. However, both show are more than fanservice vehicles.

Meganebu is a straight comedy with little or no connecting plot other than maybe an overall theme for an episode, whereas Free actually does have a plot about the swim team. However, both shows have a charming cast of characters and if you want to see pretty boys living their daily lives then these are two good choices for you.

Annalyn Annalyn says...

Both anime are about cute boys in a club, and neither are particularly deep. Free! tries to take itself seriously, but its success is debatable. Meganebu! doesn't even try to be serious, which is why I enjoyed it. Both focus on friendship and all that sappy stuff. The characters are similar enough to require this recommendation.

GustafTheWise GustafTheWise says...

Both shows show great usage of all male clubs who want to achieve a great goal that others edge them towards with a few hardships and getting over those.

You and Me.

You and Me.

Shun, Kaname, and the twins Yuuki and Yuuta have known each other since they were young children and are now entering their second year at Homare High School. However, despite having been friends for many years, their life together isn’t always smooth sailing. And with the sarcastic and indifferent twins constantly teasing or irritating the serious Kaname, it's left up to the optimistic and kind Shun to keep the peace. But no matter their differences, the four boys stick together through everything, whether they’re simply reminiscing about their days in kindergarten, attempting to get Yuuki interested in a school club, or trying to stop the source of Shun's recent run of bad luck.

Maria Holic

Maria Holic

Kanako Miyamae hates boys so much that she breaks out into hives after any physical contact with them. So when she is able to transfer to the Ame no Kisaki Girl’s school, Kanako is overjoyed that she can now search for her fated yuri partner. When she arrives, Kanako meets Shidou Mariya, a beautiful young girl who is exactly her type... except that Mariya is really a sarcastic and sadistic young boy who is masquerading as a girl! With no intention of being expelled from school, Mariya threatens Kanako into keeping his secret, and decides to guard her twenty-four hours a day to ensure that she does. Now Kanako must share a room with Mariya who is gleefully making her life a misery while using his ‘feminine’ charms to stop her protesting. Throw into the mix Ryuuken, the most popular girl in school who has vowed to protect her; and Kiri - who claims they are dating to prevent her from being bullied - and it seems as if Kanako’s dream of all-girl school life will be nothing like she imagined!

These are both fast paced gag comedies with no particular plot to them. Both these shows feature a cast of oddball characters getting into strange situations. A lot of the comedy in both these series are based on verbal puns and both show like to reference other anime.

Maria Holic is a much more ecchi comedy and the majority of the cast is female so there are a ton of yuri jokes. Meganebu is a bit more surreal and the cast is made up of all bishounen males, there is some implied shounen-ai, but it's very vague and the show doesn't focus on that.

These shows are also pretty similar visually. Meganebu is Studio Deen's attempt to ape SHAFT's weird visual style and they do a pretty good job of it, while Maria Holic is actually made by SHAFT. So these are both pretty unique looking anime that use lots of inventive and bizarre imagry.

Maria Holic is a bit funnier than Meganebu but if you like the style of humor in one then you should check out the other.

These are both pretty random comedies with casts of colorful oddball character that can also be quite charming at times. The plots and settings of the anime are completely different as is the art style, but these are both primarily comedy anime with the humor being very random and bizarre at times so in that way I think they make a pretty good match.

Meganebu is slower paced and doesn't have the same manic energy as Hare, but it makes up for it with surreal humor and a moments of greatly timed slapstick.

Hare is a much funnier anime with a more well rounded cast of character, but if you like random comedy that will often deleve into the bizarre and surreal then check out either of these titles.

Cute high school boys doing stupid and nonsensical things, hurrah! Meganebu! is a little bit more grounded than Binan Koukou (the latter includes aliens and magical boys), but both are incredibly crazy and colorful with their antics. Not to be taken seriously at all, the shows feature our main cast's school club up against their school's student council, lots of stupidity and comedy ensures, and in the end you're left wondering what in the world you're watching. Both are easy watches and plenty of fun.

A group of eccentric and spirited high school boys all join a club based on a common interest. Tons of hilarity and crazy shenanigans ensue.

Neither really have a central storyline; the episodes mainly consist of short segments of the characters getting into various funny situations. In both series there is also a somewhat "normal" character who ends up getting involved with the club.

Both also have a student council that is trying to put a stop to the club's antics.
