But the two are confronted with other “Mecha-ude” users who are in search of the secret of “Mecha-ude” relentlessly. In this work, an anima-machine named “Mecha-ude” with self-awareness appears. Even though they look inorganic in nature, they all show or express their own feelings and opinions. They can feel angry, sad, and even encouraged to fight against enemies.
Everyone who knows me knows I have a soft spot for crowdfunded anime (among other things). Mecha-Ude in particular got me interested on it since I found about it, and once it was available I couldn’t help but watch it immediately. But, did it live up to my overblown hype? Keep reading if you want to find it out! The story is the typical stuff you find in a shounen. While it wasn’t bad by any means it was quite predictable and not even the twist manages to be surprising (in fact, you can see it coming from miles away). This also affects the characters because most of them are walking stereotypes (maybe the main lead not so much, since he’s far from being your usual plucky hero). As surprising as it may seem this didn't hinder my enjoyment one bit. This is one of those shows where the creators probably didn't aim to be original and instead tried to imiatate what they love the most, making the OVA an enjoyable experience. The animation is pure eye-candy. The backgrounds are really pretty and the characters are well-drawn. The design of the Arms (and I mean the mechanical ones) is impressive and its vibrant colors make them even better. It’s also noteworthy how they avoided any kind of fanservicey shot regarding Aki’s Arms even if they are placed right below her skirt. It may not look as good as any movie done by Makoto Shinkai or Ufotable, but it definitely looks better than most of the stuff out there The soundtrack is really good too. They manage to enhance the show and make the fights and certain scenes in particular even more impactful. The track that plays during the final fight is especially great. The voice acting as good and it fit the characters they were voicing. In short this show may not be a masterpiece but it was really good, even if it was full of cliches. I licked it so much I’d definitely watch a TV anime of this OVA if it gets one.
