Both of these animes are about the ultimate killing machines. MD Geist is set in a post-apocalytic world whereas Genocyber only features this in the last two episodes. Both however feature lots and lots (and lots) of graphic violence and both of these feature an antagonistic character who has an inflated ego whilst ruling a city of survivors. The similarities are quite striking so if ultra-violence rocks your boat then these are animes to check out.

ZetsubouKaiji ZetsubouKaiji says...

These are two anime that revel in their violent themes without putting much thought into the plot. Both anime send the blood and guts flying by the bucketful.

Genocyber has a convoluted and frankly dumb plot, but Geist has little to no plot. So if you're looking for some older style anime high on action then check out either of these shows.

Brad Brad says...

Cheesy, hyper violent 90's OVA's are generally pretty alike, and these two are no different. Each goes full throttle with the violence at the expense of a plot that makes any sense, or even at the expense of a plot at all in the case of Geist.

If you love your cheese and violence, then you should get a kick out of each, but if you're looking for more depth you will leave disappointed.

Post-apocalyptic settings and ultra-violence are central themes to both these animes. Both titular characters are the toughest and most-dangerous (no pun intended) people on a desolate world. If buckets of blood and guts in a post-apocalyptic setting is your cup of tea then these two animes are for you.

Brad Brad says...

Both are about a manly man killing their way through what's left of society in post-apocalyptic wasteland setting. Both are over the top, ridiculously cheesy and distincly 80's in look and feel. Plot wise, Fist of the North Star has a littler bit more than MD Geist, but both are still severely lacking in that department. If you enjoy manly men wrecking stuff up, you will enjoy both of these feature length shows.

Grey: Digital Target

But when his friend and mentor is captured by the enemy, he must embark on a journey to save him, all the while discovering that the society he lives in may not be as it seems...

Another post-apocalyptic anime with ultraviolent themes.  Grey is like Geist in that they keep surviving no matter the odds thrown against them.  Grey follows our hero as he finds out what it takes to get citizenship status and keeps the war on-going.  A good anime that may pique your interest if you liked the other.

ZetsubouKaiji ZetsubouKaiji says...

Post apocalyptic settings where violence has become the norm make these anime very similar in themes. Both these anime portray violent worlds where the protagonists are the deadiest fighters of all.

Grey has a better plot but it's soundtrack and animation aren't quite as good as Geist. However, Geist is really short and has very little going on in the story department.

Aw shit, now we're talking! Death Force paled in comparison to the first MD Geist and it also pales in comparison to Afro Samurai Resurrection, a movie all about a guy named Afro murdering the bejeezus out of anyone in his path, kinda like Death Force. The similiarities don't end with barebones plot, bad script writing and violence, but in blood, more violence and for Res, even more feats of badassery. It shares time with the villain, somewhat cutting the main out of the picture, but it does it better than Death ForceRes will sake your thirst for blood, violence and carnage, despite them being totally different genres.

ZetsubouKaiji ZetsubouKaiji says...

Violence and gore aplenty. Afro Samurai and MD Geist are both geared to provide that action fix if you're looking for it. Light on plot heavy on fights.

Afro has better just about everything. Better story, better characters, better animation, but Death Force does have a rad retro soundtrack, whereas Afro has a more modern rap sound track, they're both good in their own way. However, Afro is just the better anime.

if you like post-apocalyptic fighting, then try Genesis Survivor Gaiarth.  Both stories involve robots which are hell bent on killing anything in their path and characters that either try to prevent said killing or villians which are more than happy to watch said destruction.  The plot lines in both anime keep the watcher interested without feeling like you need to nap while these play in the background.  A romping fun watch that can be finished inside of an afternoon!

What does Death Force have to do with Apocalypse Zero? Everything. Two badass OVAs but Death Force to a lesser extent, and to lesser quality if you can believe that. Still, both are packed with blood, violence, manly action, some awesome buttrock music that can heighten scenes of carnage, plenty of morals and terrible dubs. Also armor, the kind that badass people use to murder the everloving crap out of people. Neither have plots worth mentioning but you're here for the violence, and you get violence. This may not be the 80s, but it's 1996 and it punches the year in the balls.

Afro Samurai

Afro Samurai

In a futuristic and wild west-inspired Japan, there are only two rules: the Number 1 rules the world and only the Number 2 can challenge him; these ranks are worn with pride in the manner of headbands. In these harsh times, Afro is a samurai who is on a mission for revenge – an evil gunman killed his father to become the Number 1, and it’s up to Afro to take him down in a shower of blood and entrails. He has mastered the art of the sword and become Number 2, but many others want to hold his title and the title of Number 1 for themselves. With competition and sword fights at every turn, can Afro finally exact his revenge?

Badass people doing badass things, mainly murdering the everloving crap out of people and getting them women. Death Force, unfortunately, just isn't up to snuff with the balls out awesomeness of Afro Samurai. Excusing the lesser production values and terrible VA, Geist sometimes lacks the actual main doing the ass kicking and has some two-bit hack of a villain have the same amount of screentime as Geist. Afro Samurai, is mostly Afro chopping people into pieces and kicking ass throughout. Neither have plot or much of a script, but go to Afro Samurai for more badass action, blood, violence and body-shreding carnage.

Battle Royal High School

Battle Royal High School

Hyoudo is a ‘typical' high school boy who carries out his martial arts battles wearing a jaguar mask. However, there's more to Hyoudo than meets the eye - he's also the counterpart to a Demon Master named Byoudo from the dark realm, and soon comes to be possessed by the evil force! As if that isn't strange enough, there's also an evil Fairy Master whose goal is to spread her nests of bloodthirsty offspring, a pair of space time continuum enforcers, a sword-slinging demon hunter and tentacle monsters galore. Will the Demon Master Byoudo or Fairy Master succeed in taking over Earth, or can they be stopped?

Unlike MD Geist, it's sequel Death Shits is pretty shitty. Slaps on a lesser punk to take screen-time away from the face exploding, testicle crushing death god MD Geist. Add in music that isn't as good and you get a crappy OVA. But in the same vein of terrible anime is Battle Royal High School, which is far less logical, intelligent and sensible than Death Shits but retains a higher degree of morals and likable characters while being more badass and having shit randomly explode as things blow up in explosions of blood and assorted demon limbs. Death Shits cannot touch the sheer stupidly awesome gnarliness of Battle Royal High School so just go watch that instead of this shitty sequel.
