While Maid-sama leans more towards a shoujo demographic, both stories are romantically-leaning tales of a guy discovering the female lead's secret double-life. Both are have a fair share of comedy and drama, have clean and up-to-date animation, and a bouncy, lighthearted soundtrack to balance out the range of voice talent. If you enjoyed Mayo Chiki!, I think you'll enjoy Maid-sama as well.

These anime share characters with secrets and lots of laugh out loud moments. They both contain kya-inducing romances which develop at a painfully slow pace.

Jdogtoocool Jdogtoocool says...

Ah both have so much in common! The main females living a double life, tsundere to boot, and the main male characters always coming to their rescue. Maid Sama and Mayo Chiki are fun, slice of life anime with great character building and a great plot. If you like one I'm sure you'll love the other.

DemonWolf DemonWolf says...

Theses anime are very similar. The girl in kaichou, is blackmailed and want to keep her secret from school, and in the process learn about relationships. In mayo a girl is hiding A secret from the school and a boy also finds out. The diffrece it the boy is not in control. The story over all is much faster paced as well.

stopskiii stopskiii says...

similar "hide the secret" trope, both have comedic interactions. Great shows. although mayo chiki ends out of no where, making you need to read the manga to finish the story.

Toradora!

Toradora!

With different cleaning habits and tempers, the two clash like night and day; that is, except for the fact that Taiga and Ryuuji have crushes on the other's good friend! With school rumors abounding, the duo must now work together to play matchmaker for each other. Who will end up with their true love?

Both series are romantic comedic slice of life styled featuring a strong supporting male lead and his connections to a girl and her friend, finding himself caught in a slightly awkward love triangle that is bound with strong friendship all around. Both series also have a total resolution of the romance (not leaving you with a "well, things never really got solved" feeling),

They also have strong story telling elements, and deep complex characters in a fleshed out world, making it easy to get pulled in and follow the silly antics, and heart throbbing romance.

Best if watched with a person you're interested in! ;)

Jdogtoocool Jdogtoocool says...

I agree, both Toradora and Mayo Ckiki are very similar. Wether it comes to dealing with the main male lead's problems (scary face, or fear of woman), love triangles, or hilarious situations due to the main romances' shortcomings. Tsunderes, great supporting characters, and all of the romance comedy you can ask for. If you like one I'm sure you'll love the other.

They are both great, cute anime with tsundere main characters. Great and entertaining! I highly reccomend both.

Ouran High School Host Club

Ouran High School Host Club

Ouran High is a school for the extremely wealthy or, in Haruhi's case, the extremely talented. But no amount of talent will help when Haruhi accidentally drops an eight million yen vase in a music room. The vase was the property of Ouran High School Host Club, a group of attractive young men who, for a fee, provide their time and affections for their lovesick clientele: the female students. Fascinated by this strange new specimen, a poor and clumsy commoner, they force Haruhi to work for them until the debt is repaid; but they get a lot more than they bargained for...

If you like Mayo Chiki or Ouran you should watch the other because both shows are about a girl who works at a job that requires them to pretend to be a guy. Though Haruhi from Ouran is way more convincing than Konoe from Mayo Chiki is; that shouldn't stop you from enjoying one or the other.

snivets snivets says...

In my opinion, Mayo Chiki is one of the best recs for Ouran Hostobu and vice versa. Although the stories are similar (crossdressing, school life), I actually find that they are most similar in terms of their atmosphere and feel: uber-kawaii awkwardness.

Maria Holic

Maria Holic

Kanako Miyamae hates boys so much that she breaks out into hives after any physical contact with them. So when she is able to transfer to the Ame no Kisaki Girl’s school, Kanako is overjoyed that she can now search for her fated yuri partner. When she arrives, Kanako meets Shidou Mariya, a beautiful young girl who is exactly her type... except that Mariya is really a sarcastic and sadistic young boy who is masquerading as a girl! With no intention of being expelled from school, Mariya threatens Kanako into keeping his secret, and decides to guard her twenty-four hours a day to ensure that she does. Now Kanako must share a room with Mariya who is gleefully making her life a misery while using his ‘feminine’ charms to stop her protesting. Throw into the mix Ryuuken, the most popular girl in school who has vowed to protect her; and Kiri - who claims they are dating to prevent her from being bullied - and it seems as if Kanako’s dream of all-girl school life will be nothing like she imagined!

Both series involve a crossdresser, and the main character keeping their secret, while the crossdresser watches over the main character to make sure their cover isn't blown.. Both series are also in a school setting.

Lanturn Lanturn says...

The main characters both in Maria Holic and Mayo Chiki have many similarities. They both feature Crossdressers, and have a reason (Maria has a boy dressed as a girl, and Mayo Chiki has a girl as a boy). The ones that get introduced to them have some symptoms that make either one break out into hives, or have extreme nosebleeds. Both feature a school-based elements, "cruel" sidekicks to the crossdressers, the list goes on. If you loved either or, you'll find the same great humor and craziness, in the other.

greyweather greyweather says...

A protagonist who cannot stand the touch of the opposite sex, a manipulative rich person forcing the protagonist to keep a secret, crossdressing, and frequent nosebleeds.  These shows are two peas in a pod.  I'll mention now that I thought Mayo Chiki was the better comedy though.

Nyan Koi!

Nyan Koi!

So when he wakes up one day and can hear what every feline is saying, Kousaka is annoyed to say the least. His new “gift,” it seems, is the result of accidentally breaking an enshrined statue of a cat; and what’s worse, Kousaka must atone for his sin and appease the vengeful spirit by aiding one hundred kitties-in-distress, or become a furry feline himself! Now, amidst helping various cats with mundane and trivial issues, Kousaka must try to dispel the jinx and attempt to salvage his self-respect – not to mention his love life - along the way.

One guy with some kind of curse, many cute girls around him (but not all of them are in love ...I hope), pretty carefree life (except main problem) and a kinda silly chick, which is a love problem of main character. Both series have a pretty similar mood, also they aren't any serious. Just another silly love comedies that will make your time more pleasant.

HKBattosai HKBattosai says...

If you liked Nyan Koi! or Mayo Chiki! then you'd like the other because both are not so serious, somewhat silly comedies. Each feature a main male character with an equally significant problem (Junpei is a Cursebearer and Kinjirou suffers from Gynophobia). Similarly, both have a large number of girls either liking the main guys, or at least hanging around them constantly.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu

Yuuto Ayase is not interested in girls - if his two housemates are anything to go by, girls are loud, brazen slobs that are best left alone. However, when Yuuto accidentally discovers an important secret of his school’s most popular female, Haruka Nogizaka, the two become bound in a budding friendship. All too soon, Yuuto discovers that, despite her flawless appearance, Haruka is clumsy, naive, and a closet otaku... and he just might be falling for her.

But will he get over his perverse fetish? He sure hopes so.

Both characters as problems they can't heal themself and a girl come and tell him she can cure him of his disease. There's a principal girl with an "assistant" (in MM) and a majordome (in MC). A lot of comedy and a little romance and Ecchi!.

Madoka Madoka says...

Whilst i watched MM! 2 years ago i only recently watched MC, and all i could think was how it reminds me of MM! At first the two don't seem alike, one based on a Masochist whilst the other based on gynophobia, but this actually becomes a common trait as they both are trying to be cured of their "problem". Though the story telling is a little different they are quite similar in how characters act and communicate and a similar style of comedy is used in each. So on the surface they might not be the same by the time you get into one you will realise how similar they are.
