Masamune-kun's Revenge Story. Masamune once a fat rich kid who loved his food but was the target of bullies loses weight to become the popular guy. After losing weight he takes a new identity so that he can get revenge on his former bully, the most popular girl in school, Aki - a girl he used to love. The set up is not be unique and its not hard to predict what the likely ending will be. The story lends it self to bits of drama and comedy. The there a few twists which add to the story and the exploration of this idea of what body image really mean. The story is based on mange and it does not reach a proper conclusion by the end of the season. At this stage its not clear whether there will be a second season. Animation The backgrounds and character design are nice. Nothing spectacular but solid Characters Our protagonist, Masamune who was once the victim of bullying for being fat loses weights and essentially takes on a new identity. He has a reasonable backstory but also faces the ongoing challenge of whether changing his appearance is enough. At times it feels he lacks depth The villian/heroine so to speak falls in the opposite category to Masamune and has always enjoyed being popular. She bullies all guys who ask her out and the story doesn't completely explain why this is. I feel you do see her character evolve through the story but overal she is a typical tsundere. A couple of the side characters also have interesting back stories and are developed reasonably well through the series so far. The side characters are also generally likeable Overall This is a rom com is not particularly unique. If you are looking for some light hearted entertainment then this might be what your looking for. I was definitely entertained enough to look forward to a second season if there ever is one.
I'll make this short sometimes i feel like this is a rip-off to clichekoi i mean nisekoi where the ending is predictable, I mean fist glance at the characters and you'll know it but for some reasons I still find this series decent I guess, but for most part I was annoyed. Story It seems interesting not gonna lie, especially with the revenge thing, especially during Neko's time and during the fake masamune arc, however until now I don't know what Aki's role is, she's one big plot device. Characters I guess they are okay with Neko being the excdeptional for me, personally she's my favorite, at first I thought she's just your typical secondary girl who clings to the guy, but then we learned some of her past and though it wasn't explained properly. Still I think she's the main girl because she handles rejection well and even tries to get Masamune and Aki together. Now with Masamune and Aki, for masamune, I can't say much other than he's just your typical harem MC who I don't know likes to play virgin I guess?, LIKE C'MON DUDE ANSWERING A CALL FROM A GIRL BOTHERS YOU?!?!?!?!?!?! Still though he has a nice backstory and has a good reason on why he clings to Aki so much as for Aki, I don't know I'm annoyed at her she's your typical tsundere who falls for the guy (as expected) but what am I annoyed is, it all went out after someone shows up (I won't spoil it) as for the rest, I find Shuri cute just cute and relatable, Futaba is nice I sure wish we could see her confession scene, Yoshino well I guess she's okay, and I kinda like her personality and the loli mom xD Animation and Sound the animation is Okay, and the sound I guess, i like Neko and Shuri's design the most masamune is like your typical harem mc as usual same with Aki Overall the sereis is good but I wasn't totally entertained because of the cliches and how predictable it is
So I like the plot well enough, I definitely haven't seen a revenge based anime before that is also pretty light hearted and I liked it. However, the anime goes along great up until episode 10 then it starts falling down hill very fast. What could have been a simple and logical ending to the anime was over complicated and left to many unsolved questions, confusion, and a little anger. The last episode didn't help at all since the vast majority of the episode was filler. THE LAST EPISODE WAS F*CK*NG FILLER WHAT!?!?!?!?! I just don't understand what they were thinking. The animation is what is nothing special just normal for a 2017 anime. That goes for the English Dub sound as well- funimation did a good job with Aki's voice though I really liked it. The characters are pretty diverse and I love that Aki has an illness that she cleverly keeps secret. And while Masamune can get a little annoying with his quest for vengence and can be a little dence and surprisingly stupid about how to woo women he's pretty likable. Yoshino is bland but threatening and unique. Otherwise from her weird intellect she's kind of forgettable just like the majority of characters in this anime. With a couple scenes with a couple other characters. And also, Masamune in a whole is a bit of a dummy head he has this wonderful girl who really likes him and he just turns her away because he's so focused on his revenge. ugh What a waste of a last episode. This anime was a solid 8/10 before the last 3 episodes now it's more like a 6/10.
