When they were in middle school, the Hidaka brothers managed to play in the national baseball championship as part of the "Hiiragi Trio". But just like his older brother, Fuu, the one-year-younger brother, Tairiku, has now moved on to the associated high school. The brothers each dream of building a large mansion for their now-divorced mother and father to live. Tairiku currently lives with his father, while Fuu is living with his mother, so they seem disconnected at first glance... But between attending the same school, and coming and going from each other's homes, they actually share a close bond. As such, these two brothers put all their drive into baseball, while respecting the lives and circumstances of everyone in their family.

Baseball manager J. Shuro met legendary pitcher Eiji Sawamura as a child in the Philppines during WWII, and heard of Sawamura's dream to have Japan fight America on the baseball field rather than the battlefield. After Sawamura's death Shuro decided to take on his dream by finding nine men who were born nine seconds after 9:09 on September 9, 1954 (the 29th year of the Showa Era). With a baseball-shaped mark on each of them, these men will form Team Astro, the greatest baseball team the world has ever seen.

Hachiro Kurogane, a high school graduate catcher, joined the Carbons, a very weak baseball team, as the 8th overall pick in the draft. That was the "marriage condition" given to Hachiro by his childhood friend, Suzu Domon, whom he had fallen in love with. Hachiro's tremendous challenge has begun as he aims to make the starting lineup for the season opener!

On the pitcher’s mound, on the one hand, his left arm has the control to put the ball right where he wants to with absolutely perfect precision.
