My Bride is a Mermaid

My Bride is a Mermaid

While visiting his hometown, junior high school student Michishio Nagasumi's life was changed forever when he nearly drowned. Though he was saved by a mermaid named San, there’s a catch -- her family is part of a merfolk mafia, and they abide by a strict rule: If a mermaid is discovered by a man, either he or the mermaid must die. That is, unless the man marries into the family! Faced with such a decision, Nagasumi can only oblige their customs and become a "happy" newlywed. Now, with a new school year around the corner, Nagasumi must find a way to deal with his new bride, keep her true nature a secret, and most importantly, escape inevitable death at the hands of San's over-protective father’s gang!

Both Magikano and Seto are comedy anime and the characters get involved in all sorts of crazy situations. The male leads have to live together with a girl they just met but there's not much romance since both anime focus more on comedy.

bendunnb4 bendunnb4 says...

Seto no Hanayome and Magikano share almost exactly the same type of humor...extremely exaggerated situations, women changing from high-pitched voice cuties to deep-voiced angry women in a pinch, characters saying one thing out loud and plotting evilly in asides, etc. If you liked the comedy in Seto no Hanayome you'll definitely like the same in Magikano, and vice versa.

Maburaho

Maburaho

Kazuki Shikimori is a 17-year old junior studying at Aoi Academy, an elite school for the magically gifted. However, unlike enrollment to the school would suggest, his magical prowess is below-average. In fact, he can only use magic eight times in his life, or he will die. But not all is lost: Kazuki's family tree includes the latent genetic material for magical greatness. After that information leaks out, Kazuki suddenly becomes the most popular male student in the school, and girls from powerful magician families begin chasing him to get his genes.

Both of these stories are cutesy harem comedies centered around a lovable but fairly useless male character who possesses mysterious great powers that have their own profound limitations. They are another set of formulaic stories, but are still fun to watch. Maburaho tends to lean towards the more romantic aspects of the harem stories, and Magikano seems to focus more on the comedic elements, but there's plenty of overlap for both.

Ran Ran says...

Both Magikano and Maburaho feature a boy that has great magic powers but ignores or cannot use them. A harem soon rises around him and he'll use his magic when he needs to save one of his friends.

Damaged Damaged says...

To me these anime's are spitting images of each other. The both feature a male character that has super poweful magic and can't use it (for different reasons of course). Also, the male character is totally sought after by all the girls in the series, but the male is totally oblivious. Both these animes have a perverted theme to them as well. Basically, if you liked one, you are going to like the other because they are more or less the same anime

pancho pancho says...

In the beginning both are using the guys to get something they want, though B Gata H Kei's is a little bit more of a perverted reason; both guys are clueless to the real reason. They are also ecchi animes and comedies but the humor in B Gata H Kei's is a little bit more mature. Well either way if you like one you will like the other.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

B Gata H Kei and Magikano involve the main girls of the series gleefully using the male characters to their advantage, turning out lots of hilarious ecchi scenes and awkward moments.

Jdogtoocool Jdogtoocool says...

I agree, Magikano and Yamada's First Time have a very similar vibe. Lots of tongue in cheek type jokes, plenty of ecchi situations to go around, and a pair of cool romantic budding relationships. Magikano is more of a harem but cherry popping to reach a goal or to unleash great power is the name of the game. If you liked one I'm sure you'll love the other.

punkypoison punkypoison says...

They're both pretty similar animes, if you like one you'll like the other... although Magikano is very verbally vulgar, and a little more magic based.

Ah My Buddha!!

Ah My Buddha!!

Ikko is a Buddhist monk in training who works at his grandmother’s temple with six nuns -- six very attractive nuns. Though lazy, weak and unmotivated to learn the skills of a monk, amazingly strong holy powers sleep inside of Ikko that are triggered only by the awakening of his, shall we say, lust for worldly delights. A vengeful spirit is haunting your home? A flash of pantsu, and Ikko's your man. But therein lies danger; what really is the secret behind his mysterious powers? And how many hits to the head from angry, semi-naked nuns can a man take?

Magikano and Amaenaideyo are not similar just because they have a harem theme; their stories are centered around the powers of a boy - powers that the people around them try either to awaken (using sexuality) or control. They are both funny, sexy, magical and fun to watch.

cassiesheepgirl cassiesheepgirl says...

Both of these series focus on a boy with incredible magical power that has yet to be realised, and the girls trying to awaken it. While Amaenaideyo is way more ecchi, both have a similar style of comedy.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Magikano and Amaenaideyo have very similar connection between them with the male lead having unleashed powers within him.  There is of course an element of sexuality as the boys need to awaken their powers in some very interesting ways.

The air headed Yuna believes her "Mamo-kun" is just a childhood friend, who coincidentally has lived beside her all her life... even when they moved! Both the animes are very alike.

Both have a group of girls falling for one guy(who is like a loser with specs in both the animes) and looking after him. But the guy is oblivious to their feelings.

And the girls keep competing amongst themselves to be close to him leading to hilarious situations

Both series are hysterically funny and crudely perverse which makes them both laugh out loud. One has to do with a magical girl trying to make a human boy fall in love with her, while the other is about an 11 year old teacher. What's not to love?

Rosario + Vampire

It seems Tsukune's average life isn't so average anymore!

Both of these animes are of the Harem variet, so if you are familiar with the breed, then you know that the themes are similar. In Magikano the main male lead is totally wanted by all the females (even his sisters) and the main female (in the case of Magikano, Mamiya) will get really angry if you touch her man. This is the same as Rosario + Vampire with Moka and Tsukune. And, of course, all the females are more than willing to fight to the death for the male in both these series. I think that if you like one you are bound to like the other.

I couldn't compare Sumomomo Momomo (SM) to Maburaho with out comparing it to Magikano since Maburaho and Magikano are verbatim the same anime in my mind.  Both of these anime feature a male that has some super ultra mega untapped power that the girls want (more Momoko in SM than others).  In SM, Momoko wants to have Koushi's kids because she will produce the strongest offspring cause Koushi is apparently the man and in Magikano Mamiya also needs to get into the main male leads pants because he is also the man (but she's not trying to make offspring, her reason is different, but that would be a total spoiler lol).  And, naturally, the main male lead is totally oblivious to his super mega powers in both these shows

Both anime are romantic comedies with a random on and off plot about a man coming to the house of a group of sisters, whos parents have convineintly left them to fend for themselves for years.  The main difference her is that one is an amazing swordsman, and the other is a pathetic wizard.  In both series, he falls for the eldest sister, while the sisters have a rivalry to get close to him.
