Both D.N.Angel and Magic Kaito present the premise that the best thieves are indeed magical. Even if D.N.Angel takes this a bit more literally. Both anime say that thievery is more or less in a family's blood. Also, those 'romantic childhood friend' vibes you get from Magic Kaito is more greatly detailed in D.N.Angel, where one of the main focuses is how Daisuke and his alter-ego Dark are caught in one body, while in love with two different girls. The art for Magic Kaito is sharper and clearer, but is shorter, featuring only one episode rather than D.N.Angel's 26. Despite these differences, they both have similar types of humor, and the character's personalities are unique. At the very least: worthy of your time.

Kaitou Kid is very much like Lupin in that they are both flambouyant thieves who send out letters stating their next target and when they will strike. Both Magic Kaito and Lupin III First Contact focus on the earlier parts of both thieves careers. In one case showing how Kaitou became Kid and the other showing the first meeting between Lupin and his comrades. If you liked one, it's well worth checking out the other.

Both anime focus on one thing: family. From stealing works of art to precious diamonds - both centralize around the fact that thievery does in fact bring people closer together: as cheesy and ironic as that sounds. Whether that means you're getting closer to your dead father or a rag-tag group of bandits, the fact remains that putting your neck out with/in memory of someone brings you together whether you like it or not. Because of this, both anime give off the same sort of "We're in this together" feel...

And for both: You keep wanting more!

Both Lupin and Kaito Kid are notorious thieves who use tricks and misdirection to fool their various rivals (Zenigata and Nakamori respectively). They also both have a habit of sending notes announcing what they will steal and when in order to challenge the police. While Lupin is generally more grown up in terms of content, if you like the action and trickery of one, then definitely try out the other.
